Thank you for answering. I am well aware that I need to tell gnuplot in some way that 
this is date-related data, my question was how ;-)

Indeed, the last command is what I was looking for (input date format)

Ok, I will change the data in file, add a field with a valid date format that can be 
read and plotted with a correct ranking by gnuplot, and use xticslabel to have week 
numbers on the x-axis. I'll let you know..
