[Gnuplot-info] Autoscaling

Hi gnuplotters

I am trying to plot a couple of trivial graphs using multiplot to get the
result shown.

The code is:

reset
set term png enhanced background rgb"light-blue"
set output "both_sideways.png"

AutoScale=0.9

set multiplot layout 1,2 title "Now I can see this"
	set title "sine" 
	set xlabel "x"						#set xlable and ylabel
	set ylabel "y=sin(x)"
	#set a pink background color
	set object 1 rectangle from screen 0,0 to screen 0.5,AutoScale fillcolor
rgb"pink" behind
	plot sin(x) with lines linecolor rgb"light-green" notitle

The problem i have is defining AutoScale, which i have to guess. This
example uses 0.9 for ymax in screen mode (for want of a better term). Is
there a way to get gnuplot to automatically define AutoScale? I know it has
internal variables (GPVAL_?) that can be used after doing dummy plots to set
them. There must be one that defines the multiplot title region?
