[Gnuplot-info] histogram as polar plot

Dear list members,

can gnuplot turn a simple bar chart (histogram) with data from a 
.dat-file  into a circular polar plot, like the examples on this page show:
http://scienceoss.com/categories/python/matplotlib/

I have seen examples in gnuplot using functions, but not simple using 
bars representing data points.

a basic example for the histogram would be:

reset
set xlabel "category"
set ylabel "value"
set grid
set xrange [0:7]
set yrange [0:10]
set style data boxes
set style fill solid 1.0
set boxwidth 0.95 relative
plot "temp1.dat" u 1:2 w boxes
**********************************

where the data is:
==================================
1 7.5
2 5.8
3 7.9
4 4.2
5 5.0
6 7.7
=================================
