You've changed two things at once: the operating system and the version 
of gnuplot.  How did you arrive at the conclusion that it was the change 
operating system that caused the difference in behaviour?

As to whether dotted curves were any more correct than solid ones in 
that case is impossible for anyone out here to determine, as you didn't 
show that same script you used.
