I don't think using multiplot this way is an actual abuse, iirc I read
something about this usage in the documentation. I am dealing with
dozens of gnuplot files and so I have to stay with reusing code via the
load command (and that mean using multiple plot commands).

But anyhow, yes, in this way every single plot is treated independently,
so their colour is reset too. But may question is still, if there's an
option to set the linetype of contour lines explicitly -- like it is
possible for other plot/splot content (lines/surfaces).

I have already tried to insert other contour values to shift/increase
the linetype of the desired contour line to a number with appropriate
colour. But then I am struggling with extra, unnecessary visible contour
lines. Maybe there's an option to turn specific linetypes/contour lines
to transparent?
