I can only reproduce you picture by using: set term jpeg x000000 So maybe you could try: set term jpeg xFFFFFF Maybe it's also worth taking a look at the background specification in a certain WGNUPLOT.INI or you could have a "pop-up menu accessed by pressing the right mouse button or selecting ‘Options‘ from the system menu" where you can set the background color. These last two windows specific options I found by googling a bit ( http://www.manpagez.com/info/gnuplot/gnuplot-4.4.0/gnuplot_453.php ). As I'm on linux myself, I don't think I can help further.
