[Gnuplot-info] question on postscript terminal

Dear listmembers,
does anyone know whether there is a possibility to put a bar over a character using the postscript terminal? I would like to use the postscript equivalent of  $\bar{x}$ from TeX in order to depict an average value within my graph - but I could not find an hint on how to do this in the  documentation of the gnuplot postscript terminal, probably I missed something (or it is simply impossible ...).
