Suchada,

your problem is that you set the terminal twice.
So you end up with the same settings as before as the second "set terminal" command overwrites the first one.
You should replace 
   set terminal png medium
with
   set term postscript eps enhanced
and set a postscript file as output.

Now I use these command
 
 set term postscript eps enhanced
set terminal png medium
set output 'xxx.png'
set style line 1 lt 1 lw 1
 set style line 2 lt 2 lw 1 
set style line 3 lt 3 lw 1 
 set style line 4 lt 6 lw 1 
 set style line 5 lt 1 lw 3 
 set style line 6 lt 2 lw 3 
set style line 7 lt 3 lw 3 
 set style line 8 lt 6 lw 3
 set xrange [-pi:pi]
 plot sin(  x) w l ls 1, sin(2*x) w l ls 2, \
              sin(3*x) w l ls 3, sin(4*x) w l ls 4, \
              cos(  x) w l ls 5, cos(2*x) w l ls 6, \
              cos(3*x) w l ls 7, cos(4*x) w l ls 8

 but I'm confused, why not show the dashed line. Every line like solid line.
