Hi,
what you can do is (I.e.)

set xtics ("" -2, "" -1.5, "" -1, "" -0.5, "" 0, "" 0.5, "" 1.0, "" 1.5, "" 
2.0)

this will create xtics without labeltext at the positions as depicted within 
the brackets. Probably someone has a better idea.

if you really want to see the pictures above - use some font
with constant spacing like courier! :-)
