[Gnuplot-info] plot points on contours

Hi.
I have two data files one is non-grid data with X,Y values (to make lines or
points) and the other is with grid points (to make contour). I want to
overlay the first one on the second. In short, overlay lines or points on
contour. I have this script:

set terminal png transparent nocrop enhanced
set out 'test.png'
set pointsize 0.5
set size 1.0,1.7
set nosurface
set contour base
set cntrparam levels auto 10
splot [0:500] [0:500] 'file2.dat'
plot [0:500] [0:500] 'file1.data' using 1:2 with points

It gives me only the contour without the other data :confused:. Could you
please help me on this.?
