[Gnuplot-info] Color-graded line?

Hi,
Is there a way to color a line according to some z-values? Like pm3d map 
just on the line and not in the background.

If I want to display wind speed and direction vs time in one graph. OK 
that could be done with 2 y-axes, but maybe this can be done in gnuplot? 
I would display the wind direction in a usual x-y plot. Having now the 
line color-graded to the speed would be perfect.
