yes, I tried that but the same problem remains. I think since I specify new
output for the next plot, it must close the previous one. (I also have a third
and fourth.) I am sure the issue is with bounding box. When I do the plots
separately everything is fine. I prefer to have a single script though, since I
define some functions etc. common to a bunch of figures. I also tried to pass
file2-inc.eps through fixbb but then the margins are gone and the labels and
axes don't fit right when I run latex. but both plots of the multiplot show on
the figure, placed off along the diagonal to the lower left corner.
