Dear Thomas,
thank you for you replies, they were actually very helpful. I know now how to
circumvent the issue with the out of order label when specified explicitly -
though the differences in treating values is not intuitive from an users
standpoint, though clear when you realize that the explicit labels are treated
as strings in contrast to the numeric values from the range specification. I
know, I know, RTFM ...

I will play around with your suggestions regarding the xrange assignment for
w(x)=2.*pi*x ....
