[Gnuplot-info] plotting finite differences of data

Hi 
I have data x . i want to plot the finite differences x(i) - x(i-1) 'on the
fly'( or via a preprocessing) . is there a method in gnuplot. i tried using
awk but facing issues with array ordering in for loop
