Sounds good.  The only thing is I have multiple lines I want to generate and so do something like:

Plot file1 using, file1 using, file1 using...  then repeat it again for the second files, etc...

Does this mean Linux will have to re-cat the files each time or is there a way to tell gnuplot to only do it once?  These are big files, typically 2-5MB with hundreds of columns in them and I worry about efficiency. I do know doing it the way I current do is very fast especially since the first time I read a file it gets cached and I'm on not sure what happens with 'cat'.  I'd think the results do not get cached and would have to be regenerated for each line I want to plot.  For some plots there can be as many as 16 lines.
