to be sure that the error is not terminal dependent - if you 'set table'
and plot these five data lines again, what do you get?

My output is quite different:

Anticipating that the problem might be with my terminal settings, I notice
that when I first start Gnuplot there is this output

Terminal type set to 'wxt'
gnuplot>

Should my terminal type be set to something different?
