And you think 3.7 didn't?  Wow, that must be a serious case of selective 
perception ;-)

Then don't trust your eyes so easily.

Whatever makes you think that gnuplot-3.7 would have magically changed 
its behaviour regarding X11 acceptability now, 8.5 years after its 
freeze-and-release?  Or even _could_ have, had we wanted to do such a 
thing back then?

Compile gnuplot with all the necessary libraries in place.
