[Gnuplot-info] Clipping a range of an axis

Hi,

I have time data spanning only a small fraction of a day, for example, from
2-4pm. I have such data for several consecutive days. When I plot this, the
actual data takes up a very small portions of the plot canvas, while most
space is taken by the straight lines connecting the last data point on day
N-1 to the first point on day N. I would like to clip those portions of the
x-axis so only the relevant time ranges 2-4pm are displayed, with small gaps
in between representing the rest of the day.

More generally, this corresponds to the following: I want to divide by axis
into several non-overlapping ranges, spanning the whole range of my data,
and then assign different scales to them. For the particular case described
above, this means dividing the time axis into two types of ranges: one
spanning 2-4pm and other spanning 4pm of day N-1 to 2pm of day N. I want to
keep the scale of the former normal, but make the scale of the latter very
small, so it takes up only a small portion of my graph.

Is this possible? Does anyone have any suggestions?
