[Gnuplot-info] internal error: substring range specifiers must have integer values

[<Tam...@Al...>]

I am getting the following error message when trying to fit a simple
linear fit.

gnuplot> f(x) = a + b*x
gnuplot> fit f(x) [0.1:1.1] 'presregcal.dta' via a, b
         internal error: substring range specifiers must have integer
values 

It has something to do with the range specification, but I don't see the
reason.
I am using

        G N U P L O T
        Version 4.2 patchlevel 0
        last modified March 2007
        System: MS-Windows 32 bit

Any suggestions?
