Hello,

gnuplot successfully installed on MacOS 10.5 using:
./configure --without-readline
make
sudo make install

Does this explain why I could never get the readline to work in 10.4?  
However, in this case gnuplot still built fine.

PS

I did try to install gnureadline 5.2 but that wouldn't make either! It  
crashed out with the error:

Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)
powerpc-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1: -compatibility_version only allowed  
with -dynamiclib
