4.2 tarball broken?

I tried installing 4.2 from source in Ubuntu Feisty. While untarring the
files, I got an error.

gnuplot-4.2.0/src/command.h
gnuplot-4.2.0/src/contour.c
tar: Skipping to next header

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--crc error

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--length error
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

How can I overcome this problem?
