Exactly, and that's the point of seeking for help on
this list. I am not just experimenting without reason.
My distribution's gnuplot is 4.0 and cannot do what I
want with it: I want to do plottings with fillings
between curves. I will be most happy to go back to 4.0
if it can do what I want.

I still have this 
$gnuplot
Expected X11 driver:
/usr/local/libexec/gnuplot/4.1/gnuplot_x11
Exec failed: Permission denied
See 'help x11' for more details

I have checked 'help x11' but that didn't help also.
