I didn't use any and have seen, in INSTALL, that the
defaul is /usr/local/, Actually the paste above have
got typo.

is should have been

I made the installation as root and get:

#gnuplot
...
Terminal type set to 'x11'
gnuplot> Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server

gnuplot: unable to open display ':0'
