That helped, and now I get 

$ gnuplot
Expected X11 driver: 
usr/local/libexec/gnuplot/4.1/gnuplot_x11
Exec failed: Permission denied
See 'help x11' for more details

I have checked gnuplot_x11 got right permissions.
