automake version mismatch

I am trying to build gnuplot 4.1 from the cvs and got
stucked with:

mv Makefile.amt Makefile.am
configure.in:10: version mismatch.  This is Automake
1.7.9,
configure.in:10: but the definition used by this
AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.in:10: comes from Automake 1.4-p6.  You
should recreate
configure.in:10: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run
automake again.
 
Some part of the preparation process failed.
Please refer to INSTALL for details.
