There is exactly one demo file that illustrates the use of 
'set obj rectangle'.

I don't know. The "set style rectangle" and "set object rectangle"
commands were added recently (March 2006), so you might have a 
binary that is older.  But then you shouldn't have the demo file
either.  Or perhaps someone built your binary from a recent
source tree, but decided to turn off the support for rectangles.
