There has been a discussion where to put the LaTeX stuff. Our idea was to move all platform-independent things into the new share directory. This directory structure was an idea of Petr on 2005-01-27 in patch #1040192. The new structure would mean that, for example, also the "lisp" and "pm3d" directories could move into this directory. This would decrease the number of top-level directories. I like the idea of a new structure share/LaTeX share/pm3d share/lisp instead of top-level directories.
