does your 'awk' generated file contain valid 'set' commands? where do the 'countrynames' come from? from your datafile? if so, it would be easier to use an actual version of gnuplot and plot 'with labels'. If someone can host/continue updating the not-So-FAQ, I would appreciate. Or, I probably simply give up. I have a personal web server at home, but the access is too busy to process by a DSL line. Hi, for those getting in panic with the prospect of the not-So-FAQ disappearing, you can save a copy for yourself (just 4.5MB): wget --mirror -E -k -K -p http://t16web.lanl.gov/Kawano/gnuplot/index-e.html Of course, it would be great if s.o. could host it (and hopefully update it as well). Please someone save it! It has helped me ALOT when learning gnuplot and I think than the learning curve will steepen for new users if it is not available. I've noticed it is aging a little, but it has been a tremendous help to our users. I could easily provide a place to host the site if you want to move it, and I'd be happy to do so. I think the more "right" thing to do, if you're ammenable, would be to add it to SourceForge/www.gnuplot.info so it remains available indefinitely, and can continue to be updated and supported by everyone working on gnuplot. I don't have access to SF, though (Ethan?), so if that doesn't work out, I can post it elsewhere. And since it's tangentially topical, another very useful site I've discovered, that doesn't get as good a search ranking as it ought: http://www.phyast.pitt.edu/~zov1/gnuplot/html/intro.html (Zoltán Vörös, if you read this list, would you mind contributing some of those as demos?) I want to draw a large number of straight lines on a chart. I plan to use arrows. One option is to use code such as this: set arrow 7 from -500, -160, 0 to 500, -160, 0 nohead back nofilled linetype 1 linecolor rgb "dark-violet" linewidth 2.000 It might be more elegant, if possible, to provide a data file listing the start and end points for all the arrows. I see a sample data file, "arrowstyle.dat", at: http://212.182.0.171/cgi-bin/dwww/usr/share/doc/gnuplot-doc/examples/arrowstyle.dat ... but it only lists 3 data points for each arrow. I need to list an xy start and xy end for each arrow - four data points. Is it possible to put this sort of data into a gnuplot data file, and, if so, what is the correct way to reference it via gnuplot commands? |

Thanks very much, Hans. This is just what I was looking for. Different sets of vectors in my chart, will have different line styles in terms of color, line width, etc. Is the correct approach to have one data file for each set of vectors, and then to map each set of vectors into the chart, using a different plot command?
