Is is possible to mix regular and italic text in a plot?

Using gnuplot-4.0, and assuming you didn't use the 'blacktext' option:
by using the 'textcolor' options of the commands defining those plot
elements.

I have a datafile. In each line, the first entry is the x-value, the
second the y-value, and the third entry is a label(as a text) which
should be printed next to the corresponding point.

Is it possible to do this with gnuplot? I have not found it in the
documentation.

Where did you pick up the idea that a command called 'set font' existed in
gnuplot?  It doesn't.  What you're setting there is the fontpath, instead,
which is rather a different kettle of letters.  RTFM might have revealed
that a good deal quicker...

The global font choice is made in the 'set terminal' line.  See
'help png' for the details in your particular driver.

You hadn't mentioned before that your 'data plot' was actually an inline
data file ('-').  No, that can't work with the "Print" button, because
that button works by way of the "replot" command.  See "help replot" for
more details.

Only by changing the source code and recompiling.  The relevant setting
is textwin.ScreenSize.y in winmain.c, defaulting to 80.

Just the same way you would do it with normal plots.

Please be more specific.  *How* does it fail to work?  One thing to be
careful about: you'll want to re-set 'set size' and 'set origin' to their
original values before you 'set term post ; set output ; set multiplot'

e.g.,
plot y=sin(x)
with a vertical line through x=0.234?

set parametric
replot 0.234,t

is not good because,
 - it changes the y range
 - it switches the mode and erases the previous plot
 - the line does not reach the border

what I want is a grid line at specific points (I also want to be able to
assign colors/thickness to them)

I am getting the follwing error message while compiling(ie while executing) gnuplot 4.0.0 on HP-UX 11.23

I'd appreciate some feedback on patch #835235, versions of which have 
been installed in the patch tracker for ~2 years (previous version 
#594815).  This patch enables user-defined minitics, and makes some 
other minitic improvements, such as allowing minitics on axes with 
user-defined tics.  I'd really like this functionality to make it in to 
gnuplot.

Hi, I wondered whether you might be able to help me with something?

I am trying to use gnuplot's multiplot ability to plot more than one set of
axes in the same window.  I would like to have several rows of header
information on my graph.

I have used 'label' to add the header information to the graph (and
extented the top margin to give it space).

When using a normal 'plot' (ie. not multiplot) the line spacing of the
header is fine and everything fits neatly into the window.  As soon as I
try and use multiplot, the line spacing of the header increases (and the
key line spacing does too), and therefore the header takes up far to much
room, leaving the graph itself with much less space.

Is there any way to stop multiplot having this annoying effect?  The 'key'
line spacing can be adjusted with 'spacing' but I can't find a similar
option for 'label'.

Also:  the 'set size' function for each additional plot seems to be working
incorrectly.  For example:

...
set size 1.0,1.0
set origin 0,0
set multiplot
set size 1.0,0.5
set origin 0,0
plot <file>
...

I thought the plot here should take up the whole width (1.0) and half the
height (0.5), however, any value below 1.0 for the y component of 'set
size' results in the y axis being reversed.  If the value is set to 1 it
seems to take up the least room, whereas if it is set to 0.1 it takes up
more than the entire window with the axis reversed as well!!  (values above
1.0 seem to behave as I would expect the values between 0 and 1 to) Do you
have any idea what is going on here?

The 'set size' problem can at least be worked around, it is the line
spacing issue that is really bugging me.

That's hard to believe.  A plot with that many datasets, all plotted as
lines, is almost guaranteed to be completely unreadable.

Of course.  The number of linetypes available is defined by the source
code, not by the .ini file.  On top of that, the GUI display is somewhat
unlikely to be the final output, i.e. even if you did manage this, that
wouldn't change the number of linetypes available in other terminals by
one bit.

I don't think you can register line types in the .ini file (I hope I'm=20
wrong). The standard way to add line type or color is to modify the=20
ps/eps file directly.
