"Under" gnuplot: yes. But not in gnuplot itself. Gnuplot doesn't do
on-the-fly modifications of data involving more than text line's worth
of them (i.e. one "record", see "help glossary").
For modifications like this, use external data processing tools. E.g.
'awk'. You can even do that under gnuplot's control, if you're on the
right kind of platform:
plot '<awk "{print $1 \"\\t\" $2/xt_m_1; xt_m_1 = $2}" data'
(or something roughly like that). For better result, write an awk
script and run it by
plot '<yourscript data'

I've download gnuplot development version via Sourceforge CVS and GD library (gd-2.0.33.zip) from http://www.boutell.com/gd. Hi! my name is Juanjo Conti, and I am from Argentina. I first used GNUplot 4 years ago when I was at secondary school and at math class we started to use a privative software called WinFun, I wasn't happy with the idea so I look for a free plot software. For those days I started with an other friend a proyect call Gleducar (http://www.gleducar.org.ar), Gleducar it's about Free Software and Education. It does 3D plotting, i.e. surfaces of (almost) arbitrary shapes, and nowadays it can add colour to such surfaces, but that's it. |

I think you are looking for the offset parameter.

this is from the help splot - datafile - example
thingy (just type help)
splot 'datafile.dat'
where the file "datafile.dat" might contain:
# The valley of the Gnu.

3 1 0

Hope that helped. You can also splot matrix data....
using splot 'datafile.dat' matrix. Again from the help
pages:
The `matrix` flag indicates that the ASCII data are
stored in matrix format.
The z-values are read in a row at a time, i. e.,
z11 z12 z13 z14 ...
z21 z22 z23 z24 ...
z31 z32 z33 z34 ...
and so forth.

i'd like to depict the domain of a 2 parameters function by drawing it in a coloured shape on the basis (strictly speaking it is not a function but let me simplify)... i was thinking of having some flat horizontal 3d region defined only out of the domain, with surface unset and pm2d on the basis, so that i would get it's horizontal projection drawn in some color on the base... is there anything less tricky and more efficient? thank you alessandro |

The recently added animated GIF output may fare better. To reduce the amount of flickering, you'll have to generally avoid using any of the "automagic" behaviours: margins, ranges, tickmarks should all be specified to fixed values. |

Hello! i was wondering if it would somehow be possible to attain an animated plot where segments in a line are added one after the previous one. this would be very nice for demonstations... one naive idea would be to plot "< head -n X dataset" then wait and do the same for X+1... but i guess it would flicker quite enough... thank you very much in advance Alessandro |

I'm actually student at the university of Nantes and I'm having
problems with gnuplot.
I'm working on a project in which I have to draw a representation in
three dimensions of a matrix. The only problem I have is that I can't
find how to make a good display in which I can see clearly each "peak"
and especially to distinguish where do I find higher frequencies.
To make you see what I have for the moment I'm sending you my file
.gnu with the different functions I applied. I can't send you the file I
use with the different frequencies (the file weighs 700 KB) but I wish
that you could help me. The file "Plots.dat" contains the different
frequencies I have calculated in a program. The frequencies are sorted
by x and y as a matrix :
1 4 6
8 5 5
7 3 6
4 2 9
(for example).
