[Gnuplot-info] converting exponential number into simple form

I have a number of 7 digits , for example 1828446 as my y-axis and another
no. as my x-axis.
When I try to plot them, gnuplot automatically converts this y-axis number
as 1.85e+006.
Can anyone tell me how to keep this number in its original form i.e. 1828446
?

In gnuplot FAQ,

5.4 I need an integration, fft, iir-filter,...! 

Gnuplot has been and is a plotting program, not a data processing or mathematical program suite.
Therefore gnuplot can't do that. Look into the demo file "bivariat.dem" for a basic implementation of
an integration. 

For more sophisticated data-processing read the next section

I recently had the need to integrate a function for some reason. Therefore I 
wrote a small script that takes the data out of a gnuplot-generated table in

set xrange[0:1]
set samples 1000
set table "dummy.dat"
plot x*x
set output
set terminal X11
A=system ("integrate dummy.dat")
print A

The script "integrate" reads the table and outputs the integral value as 
described above. The assignment of the output of the system-command 
A=system(... results in what I want: I have the integral value "at hand" 
within gnuplot.

Now I thought about skipping the intermediate step to write to a file:

set table
plot x*x
set output "| integrate -"

This results in the integral value being printed on the screen. However, I do 
not know how to "put this output" into a variable like the return value of 
the system() command can be assigned to.

Does anybody have an idea whether and how this can be achieved?

Hi Yang,
to my experience there is no way to achieve the "right" size of the plot (i. 
e. nothing but the size of the appropriate bounding box) in the postscript 
output.

I cannot tell about emf as I hardly use it. For pdf, the method of choice is 
either pdfcrop, or epstopdf what is simpler IMHO.

As the size of the fonts and the amount of text impacts the total size of your 
graph (given you have tics that reside outside) it is close to impossible to 
keep the size of the entire picture exactly identical (if you modify labels / 
tics). 

I have to admit that I did not test so far whether the frame of the graph is 
scaled and hence the outer bounds may vary or whether the total size of the 
graph including the tics and the ticmarcs is scaled when resizing.

space surrounding the figure because the canvas itself is not resized. 
I've seen this in pdf and emf; it does not happen with postscript eps. 
These are the only three terms I've tried.

For pdf, I can use pdfcrop, but it won't be cropped the same for all 
plots, and this doesn't work for emf.  Does anybody know of a way to

dear Thomas,
this is just to let you know that I worked hard through this week using the 
new "delete <VARIABLENAME>" function intensively. It works like a charm, I 
never noticed any issue.
I would be glad if this patch could find it's way into "official" gnuplot CVS.

One additional thing I found and would be glad to see:
if you use a configuration file, say
.myconfig
and you want to load it at the beginning of your script to initialize some 
variables, the file _must_ be present in order to make gnuplot work on.

IMHO it would be great to have an option to load the file if present and 
ignore it if not present, maybe a new command like "loadcfg", maybe the old 
command issuing a message but not stopping gnuplot as is now. Such a kind of 
functionality is only available for .gnuplot in your home-directory so far, 
IMHO ".gnuplot" should be kept for "general" options rather than "specific" 
script options.

I solve this currently via a preceeding command:
system ("test ! -f <filename> && touch <filename>")
load "<filename>

but this is only working in a linux/unix environment and thus not portable.
Any comments?

convert the image into a format readable by gnuplot, and then
plot the image plus the functions you want to draw over it.
