I was just going to report a Debian bug when I saw libreadline ----------- Yes, the built in readline of gnuplot is bad. However, libreadline cannot be used instead because it is licensed under the GPL, whereas gnuplot has special licenses (patches only). Distribution of those programs linked together is legally impossible but you may rebuild your own custom package with readline. Please don't file bugs telling me to use libreadline in gnuplot... P.S., the docs say plot 'file' using 1`" is identical to "`plot 'file' using 0:1`". but the former gives line 0: Need full using spec for x time data so had to use the latter. |

I am pretty (3 sigma) sure i found a bug w/ both the 4.2RC1 and 4.0 gnuplot. It seems to ignore the variation in y when i do this plot (sin too). However, if i just plot cos(x/2) it works right. Is there something that i am doing wrong here(is gnuplot making an assumption of something not obvious)?? This should look like a surface of the 1D plot. gnuplot> set yran [-pi:pi] gnuplot> set xran [0:1] gnuplot> spl cos(y*(1/2)) Warning: empty z range [1:1], adjusting to [0.99:1.01] Thanks matt |

Hello, Background: I compiled from source on Mac OsX 10.4.8, using Sourceforge RC1 (4.2.rc1) I am having problems with all my linetypes being dotted. If I plot gnuplot> plot 'data1.out' using 1:2:3:4 w vec lw 2, 'data2.out' w l lw 4 using postscript (or fig as terminal) I get solid vectors but a dashed line for data2. Previous versions of gnuplot didn't do this. I couldn't find any documentation either. Sorry, if this is already known. Kristopher |

I apologize if this bug has already been reported - I searched the comp.graphics.apps.gnuplot group but didn't see anything. I am not a regular reader of the group. Using gnuplot version 3.7, I can plot data files containing in excess of 4 million entries (haven't gotten to 5 million yet). Using gnuplot 4.0, I cannot plot much more than 1 million data entries without something crashing. In each case gnuplot is running on a UNIX machine to which I am logged in (from a Windows PC) using the Hummingbird Exceed tool. Here is the output reported to me when it fails: gnuplot> load "plot_03b.plt" gnuplot> XIO: fatal IO error 131 (Connection reset by peer) on X server "Lxxxxxxxx.dhcp.pts.us.ray.com:0.0" after 21702 requests (21692 known processed) with 2 events remaining. (I replaced the actual machine name with Lxxxxxxxx) Gnuplot version 4.0 is running on the following machine: Manufacturer is Sun (Sun Microsystems) Manufacturer (Short) is Sun Manufacturer (Full) is Sun Microsystems System Model is Fire 280R Main Memory is 2.0 GB Virtual Memory is 3.7 GB ROM Version is OBP 4.2.2 2001/04/26 14:59 Number of CPUs is 1 CPU Type is sparcv9+vis2 App Architecture is sparc Kernel Architecture is sun4u OS Name is SunOS OS Version is 5.8 OS Distribution is Solaris 8 10/01 s28s_u6wos_08a SPARC Kernel Version is SunOS Release 5.8 Version Generic_117350-25 64-bit [UNIX(R) System V Release 4.0] Gnuplot 3.7 is running on this machine: Manufacturer is Sun (Sun Microsystems) Manufacturer (Short) is Sun Manufacturer (Full) is Sun Microsystems System Model is Fire 280R Main Memory is 2.0 GB Virtual Memory is 7.0 GB ROM Version is OBP 4.5.21 2003/02/24 17:23 Number of CPUs is 1 CPU Type is sparcv9+vis2 App Architecture is sparc Kernel Architecture is sun4u OS Name is SunOS OS Version is 5.8 OS Distribution is Solaris 8 2/02 s28s_u7wos_08a SPARC Kernel Version is SunOS Release 5.8 Version Generic_117350-25 64-bit [UNIX(R) System V Release 4.0] Any idea what is going wrong? Hi there, a suggestion regarding setting ticslevel in gnuplot. In the manual it is said that "To place the xy-plane at a position 'pos' on the z-axis, `ticslevel` should be set equal to (pos - zmin) / (zmin - zmax)". From my problems setting the xzy-plane level where I wanted it by following the manual, and consequent tests to fix them, the manual should actually read "... (pos-|zmin|) / (zmin - zmax)". This may have been suggested before, but I haven't been able to retrieve much information about it. Cheers, Nick Fameli |

Ooops, I just realized that my suggestion was incorrect. The correct version is this: to set the xy-plane level at 'pos' the manual should read "... (pos-|zmin|) / |zmin - zmax|". Cheers, Nick Fameli |

He had been looking longingly toward that door of escape all his life, and now he said good-by to it. Ah well, twant to be, he said, with an accent of weary finality; but then, suddenly out of the chill which oppressed his heart there sprang a last searing blast of astonished anguish. It was as if he realized for the first time all that had befallen him since the morning. He was racked by a horrified desolation that made his sturdy old body stagger as if under an unexpected blow. As he reeled he flung his arm about the pine tree and so stood for a time, shaking in a paroxysm which left him breathless when it passed. </BODY> </HTML> |
