Dear Tripal Community, The Tripal Project Management Committe (PMC) has just released Tripal v3.5. Notable improvements are lots of bug fixes, improved performance for multiple fields and a blazing fast new GFF3 importer! Please follow normal Drupal procedures for updating. Be sure to try the upgrade on a development site first and please report any issues you might find to Tripal GitHub issue queue. Thanks to our community who helped provide fixes, submitted issues, and pull requests! Your efforts are appreciated. |

Dear Tripal Community, As many of you know Bradford Condon has served as a member of the Tripal Project Management Committee (PMC) since the PMC was formed in late 2018. He previously worked on Hardwood Genomics at Univ. of Tennessee and with the i5K project housed with the USDA. He now works in industry and his time on the PMC is ending. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Bradford for his service to our community. He has been an advocate for adoption of new technologies, pushed for changes and updates in Chado, helped develop protocols for functional testing, helped develop coding standards and best-practices and co-developed a variety of Tripal extension modules in the Staton Lab that are used by many of our sites. On behalf of the PMC, Please join me in thanking Bradford for his very much appreciated service! Thank you Bradford! In the future, Sean Buehler will fill the 3rd spot on the PMC. He has developed for TreeGenes, i5k and HardwoodGenomics and worked in both the Staton Labs at Univ of Tennesse and Wegrzyn Lab at the Univ of Connecticut. He has been active in Tripal v3 and v4 code development and currently hosts the weekly Tripal Development meeting. Thank you Sean for agreeing to serve on the PMC! |

Dear Tripal Community, As a reminder next week begins our yearly Codefast (Hackathon). The event lasts from Jan 11th - Jan 15th. It lasts a week so that you can join in when you have time! It's not too late to register (which is free). For more details see this page: http://tripal.info/events/codefest_2021 To provide a more engaging virtual codefest, we will be using HackMD (https://hackmd.io/) for notes, design documents, and schedules. We will also use GatherTown (https://gather.town/) for interactive communication and meetings. We currently have the following team projects (but you can suggest your own if you like) * Tripal v4 core development * Gene pages design and implementation * Tripal + Galaxy integration module improvements * Breeders API Please join us if you can! |

Hi folks! Recently we've had a few inquiries from people wishing to set up a new Tripal site about what type of resources they should provide for their use case. As this depends largely on the type and amount of data a site is expected to have, as well as how much visitor traffic the site will see, it is a difficult question to answer. In an attempt to try to provide a useful response, we are collecting resource and usage statistics from existing Tripal sites. We're looking for server specifications such as * CPU type and core count * RAM * Storage space and type (HDD vs SSD, local vs NFS, RAID) * Amount and type of data * User statistics/capabilities With our diverse install base, we hope to provide a list or chart that a prospective Tripal user could use to estimate their resource needs based on their use case. If you wish to provide information about your site, please respond to this issue on the Tripal issue queue: https://github.com/tripal/tripal/issues/1114 Thanks, Sean Buehler |

Dear Sir/Madam, I am planning to set up the Tripal for a database of disease-associated variants. It is for internal use only. The number of users is not many. At present, we aim to have only Human clinical variants. The data we have currently are from clinical exome sequencing from accredited labs. Soon we are going to have data from our research projects as well, and it would be better to keep them separated as research variants. The data are not sequences. Now it is stored in Microsoft Excel. The size is 3MB for each file. The number of Microsoft Excel files is less than 100. So, what is the minimum specification for the following items: - CPU - Architecture and Operating System - Memory (RAM) - Hard Drive (Disk space) Thank you for your kind support. |
