I was testing the Gutenprint v5.2.14 against macos 10.14.2. I found that both a USB Epson WorkForce 1100 and a networked Xerox Phaser 6180 color laser printer were fine. I did and do have a paper feed problem with my Epson printer that is posted in another thread, but that doesn't impact the fact that Gutenprint drivers work fine in macos 10.14.2. I don't have any Canon printers to test, but there seems to be enough questions about the working of Canon printers I thought I would take a look to make sure that the gutenprint52+usb backend was included in the macos release. The answer was a surprising no., It is not included. There is a symlink -- /usr/libexec/cups/backend/gutenprint52+usb -> /Library/Printers/Gutenprint.printerDriver/Contents/MacOS/gutenprint52+usb The actual executable, however, was never installed. if test -f /Library/Printers/Gutenprint.printerDriver/Contents/MacOS/gutenprint52+usb ; then echo good file ; else echo no file here; fi This returns "no file here" The scripts in the macosx directory in git shows that LIBUSB should be built and therefore picked up when ./configure is run. Might it be that LIBUSB never made it into the $PATH? Not having that backend would certainly cause problems problems for some users. -- Matt How can a public be organized, we may ask, when literally it does not stay in place? You'll need the image processing library and the various data files too: http://www.peachyphotos.com/blog/posts/201610061508-mitsubishi-cp-d70-family-working/ Beyond that, what version of Gutenprint are you using? Best results with the ASK300 will require compiling current code out of the gutenprint git repo. Dear Gutenprint team, I tried to install the Fuji ask-300 printer with gutenprint 5.3 and cups 2.2.1 on a raspberry pi The printer is listed as "gutenprint53+usb://fujifilm-ask-300/159312". If I do print the cups interface always shows "Invalid backend (fujifilm-ask-300)" Do you have an idea what that could be? Thanks, Stefan |

Hi there, I'm not sure if you're still developing new releases or not. I have a Mac OS snow leopard and am trying to install a driver for a Canon Pixma TS5120. Any chance you will be adding compatibility? Or do you have any tips? The Gutenprint TS5000 series don't seem to work. Bertrand |

Hi Thank you very much for your multiples answers last week. The one about the png format is irrelevant as the problem I had some time ago is due to an old png plugin from 2005 that grabbed the file before png-file. I the meantime, I found some tiling software but I realized since it is for sewing, it is better to tile by hand and manage the fitting for the sheets. I am pretty sure, I am going to write some scripts to compute some point found with gimp in order to add some fitting lines, crop and repave using image/graphics magick It looks like if the gimp page is smaller than the paper, gutenprint allow to scale and move with a large freedom, but if the gimp page is bigger, I have no other choices than to scale with a ratio <100%. correct? That is the meaning of the last question, I expected to print many times while moving the crop rectangle. I however have a problem with my hp officejet 7110. The A3 or A3+ paper size is not in the list, I even tried to add another size (and recompiled) as, in France, we have 914mm rolls (+-3feet/1yard) in which I can cut 330mm strips and recut in 2. that make a format A3+ in width and A3half+ in length which is nice (portrait mode) for sewing. Is there a paper limits in the drivers and the 7110 has been wrongly registered as an A4 printer? Regards |

The second issues you raised is easy to answer. Migdration Assitant has *never* worked correctlly. At least Apple's installers don't erase all third party software any more. In any event, even now the Migration Assiostant wipes out thirdd party software receipts. That is why the uninstaller does not work. Every time you insetall software, it leaves a receipt in a hidden directory that lists all the files that were installed. It is this receipt that the uninstaller uses to delete the old files., No receipt, no uninstall. > > Tne first part of you issue is more difficult. I know that the Gutenprint driversd work with macOS 10.14.x. I had them working on my previous machine. I just had a chance to try them on my new machine. They aren't working properly even after a reinstall of the latest drivers. I have an Epson Workforce 1100. The paper just passes through the printer. Then the printer indicates that there is a paper issue and please try again with new paper. And so it goes. > > I might suggest that the problem is that the new MacBook Pros only have USB C connections rather than the older USB style connections. Apple does have a dongle/adapter for this. Initially, I am suspecting this might be the issue. I have tried a wireless mouse tha has a transmitter that uses the old USB type. Using Apple's adapter, the mouse is not recognized by the software. I will look at the appropriate logs to see if there is something there, > > Unfortunely I will be unavailable for the next three weeks or so and won't have access to a printer that is supported by Gutenprint. I hope someone else will be able to take a closer look at this. Meanwhile, I will contact my local, independent Apple dealer and let him know about the situation. He mentioned that others have told him that the Gutenprint drivers don't work. I thought he meant with macOS 10.14.x, but this is another indication that it is perhaps the new Apple computers that are the issue. > > Robert, do you have any thoughts on this? USB A vs USB C and adapters? > > Matt Fortunately, I can say that I have to retract my statement that there may be a problem with the new MacPower Book, macOS 10.14.x, and Gutenprint 5.2.14. It appears that my printer is having all sorts of problems dealing with paper feed. At least I think that is what it is. In any event, the new MacBook Pro is working using the Gutenprint 5.2.14 drivers. Keeth, please download the Gutenprint 5.2.14 package and reinstall again. That should replace any missing parts of the software. gutenprint-5.2.14.dmg <https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.2/5.2.14/gutenprint-5.2.14.dmg/download> -- Matt |

More troubling is the highly irregular appearance of the test page; the pixel data is clearly not being laid out properly. I'll follow this up privately with links to a couple of test prints. With luck, one of them will turn out to be correct. - Solomon -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org Coconut Creek, FL ^^ (email/xmpp) ^^ Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur. |

Hello, I saw that the Copal DPB-6000 is listed as experimental on Gutenprint 5.3.1 and wanted to give it a try. I have connected this printer to a raspberry pi3 running debian testing but there seems to be something off in the raster. The printer test page is almost entirely black and a color picture comes out as a very colorfull print. Changing the printer config (CMYK, RGB, grayscale) seems to have no effect. Samples below: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LGKvHPRkhXHun2qkJWsV4-QdZB28QkIa https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZBjIMeTDbHrGT4H69ph_77qt8kENqu_v Is there a way to debug the issue or try something different? Thanks in advance, Best regards. -- []'s Ednilson Miura |

I am thinking about purchasing an older Dye Sub printer (Kodak 6850) and Kodak is not supporting or updating firmware for this printer anymore. I am creating an iPad photo booth with the new 11" iPad Pro. I will be running Snappic as the photo booth software. It has an app that will transfer the image to a separate Windows Computer which I would like to be hardwired to the printer. Do you know how this will work best and where to locate Windows Drivers for Windows 10 for this printer at all? If there is a driver to attach to iOS as well, I would be interested in learning about all options available. Any halfway modern Epson inkjet (that supports ESC/P2, at any rate) does. Gutenprint has a limit of 1200', but that's a soft limit. The firmware-based limit is higher, but I'd have to calculate it out. > I am pretty sure Gimp can open png files. The idea is to export the > full size and use Gutenprint and Gimp to tile. Yes. > Can I go over the printer definitions to support rolls or cut rolls? Don't understand the question. Not all printers have roll feed per se, but you can sort of fake it by pre-cutting to the right size yourself. Printers that don't support roll feed don't have built-in cutters, so when it comes time to eject the paper they have to keep ejecting until they run out of paper. > Is there a feature to cut and create multiple outputs without > manually changing the position and print? Not sure what you mean by that. > Is there a support to > automatically draw the "sewing" lines? The Gutenprint core doesn't support that, and that's not the right place for it. That's something that should be done by the application, although one could certainly build an image printer application that does that. PhotoPrint, which I'm not sure is active any longer, could do that IIRC. -- Robert Krawitz <rl...@al...> *** MIT Engineers A Proud Tradition http://mitathletics.com *** Member of the League for Programming Freedom -- http://ProgFree.org Project lead for Gutenprint -- http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net "Linux doesn't dictate how I work, I dictate how Linux works." --Eric Crampton |

Hello I am using a on open source CAD software that strictly take the printer parameters for the paper sizes Correct me if I am wrong, inkjet printers receive rows and move the paper forward without any future questions. In other hands we can theoretically print on rolls after fixing input and output tray problems (of course perhaps with a limit somewhere). I am pretty sure Gimp can open png files. The idea is to export the full size and use Gutenprint and Gimp to tile. Can I go over the printer definitions to support rolls or cut rolls? Is there a feature to cut and create multiple outputs without manually changing the position and print? Is there a support to automatically draw the "sewing" lines? Regards |

There is currently no driver for the TS5100,using the TS5000 was a good try, but just confirms the printers are too different for that to work. Incidentally, the TS5000 support is also experimental. I have plans to add support for newer printers sometime this quarter still, but no timeline for you yet. However, regarding MacOSX, building code on that OS is a PITA, so you would likely have to wait for an official pre-release of the relevant version. Sorry, but please wait max ~2 months for me to add support. Best regards, Gernot Hassenpflug |

Hello Anthony It looks like this printer accepts PCL3 as the emulation language. You could try generic PCL drivers, or in gutenprint try one or another of the HP inkjet devices and see if one of them works reasonably well for you. As it has ethernet, I suspect you can access its admin interface with a browser and setup some details there, perhaps it accepts other emulation as well, like PS or PDF?
