Downloaded Gutenprint 5.2.14 to facilitate using my HP 750 psc with my Mac mini using version 10.13.4 High Sierra. I have had continuity issues when printing in color. I’m using a new color cartridge and it tests out in full color spectrum, yet I’m only getting pink for color, (as if the cartridge is depleted or the contacts are dirty - which they aren’t). Oddly, I have managed to get full color printing to work when I’ve deleted the printer, re-added it, reset the printer, and run disk utility etc.. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I’m selecting “color matching” and choosing an RGB profile before printing as suggested by your site. I’ve also removed the driver and re-installed it as a further possible “fix”. Restarting and then attempting to get the correct color printing, but to no avail. Now I can’t get it to work at all, not even on occasion. Unfortunately, I am not tech literate, but can usually assess things and find a way to make things work. However, I’ve hit a brick wall. Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Brooke |

However, you may need a more up-to-date version of CUPS than what was bundled with Wheezy, which is now two releases out of date (and as of the end of 2018, completely unsupported). Is there a reason you can't update to something newer? Hi gimp-print devs Are these drivers compatible with a raspberry pi ? because they have arm processors and I have experienced some issues with other software because of that. If so, this mean I can use cups to just print with these drivers ? Kind regards, Merlijn Verzonden vanuit Mail voor Windows 10 |

Thank you for your response Matt. I appreciate it. I was holding off on responding until I could tell you something firm. I installed Gutenprint 5.2.14 but was still unable to complete the Migration Assistant process. It is unclear whether Gutenprint was still the culprit or not as the process kept timing out. However I did not get other error messages which specifically mentioned any other software except Gutenprint. I ended up migrating the data by hand — a tedious process but I needed to move things along. At this point I believe I still have Gutenprint 5.2.14 installed. I am running 10.14.3 on a 2018 MBP. Happy to test some stuff for you if that helps. I’ll be offline through Fri or Sat this week. The second issues you raised is easy to answer. Migdration Assitant has *never* worked correctlly. At least Apple's installers don't erase all third party software any more. In any event, even now the Migration Assiostant wipes out thirdd party software receipts. That is why the uninstaller does not work. Every time you insetall software, it leaves a receipt in a hidden directory that lists all the files that were installed. It is this receipt that the uninstaller uses to delete the old files., No receipt, no uninstall. > > Tne first part of you issue is more difficult. Hello, Downloaded 5.2.14 driver and installed on Mac Mojave. Installed OK, printer set up using Gutenprint driver. Using it opens the printer queue, but all it will do is say ‘printer ready’. Clicking pause/resume results in the same again. Do data sent to the printer by the lack of data light on printer. Please help. Regards, Ron |

I dont get a print when i try to print from the DiskStaition from Synology. The HL-2030 is a so-called GDI driver, meaning it does not utilize a standardized printing protocol, relying instead on the manufacturer's drivers. That said, Brother provides a Linux driver for the HL2030 for download from their web site. Integrating it into the Synology firmware will require cooperation between Synology and Brother, and consequently is not something Gutenprint will be able to do. When you set the CUPS log level to debug, just make sure you set the file size to a large enough byte level (10MB or more maybe). If you restart CUPS before doing your test maybe the log is rotated (not sure) so you can start with a clean log. Then hurriedly print the job and either stop CUPS or copy the log file so it does not fill up more with the periodic CUPS messages. You should easily find the messages regarding filters, and you can always delete irrelevant CUPS messages in the copied log file to make it more manageable. Hope that helps. Unfortunately, Mac OS 10.6 requires an Intel processor whereas the iBook has a PowerPC processor. So where do I go from here? Greetings all; Been here before folks. Is there any chance that this printer can, or will be supported at some point with a non brother driver that actually works? Old cups 1.5.3 here, on a wheezy install and something is filtering out all the fine tuning commands from the brother drivers intended to used with cups. So all the color adjusters that show up under the advanced menu selection when configuring this printer have zero effect, and the color printouts all are very pastel, as if every option was permanently set at -20. Something I was recommended to try previously has even made the clean printhead into an unsupported command, requiring I do that from the printers own menu. I have asked for, and been ignored, a description of the path in terms of what filters the data to print may be passing thru between the file to print, and whats fed down the cable to the printer in hopes I might be able to recompile it and make this printer usefull. The ppd supplied by the brother driver installer, has all these bells and whistles. So I am asking again, what do I look at in hopes of finding this blockage. What is the chain of drivers/filters before it hits the cable, which can be either ethernet or usb, that makes no difference. I have returned my printer because of other issues with paper feeding and meanwhile received a new unit. WIth the new printer the banding issue is gone, so it looks like the old one really was a faulty unit. Thanks again for your support. |

Hello Tom, Can you confirm that the printer works fine via USB connection? I.e., that there is no issue with the actual gutenprint driver on your system. If there is a problem with USB, we would need a CUPs debug log. If that is working fine, then the problems with networking would be related to CUPS presumably, and a debug log would be necessary to figure out more (and posting to the CUPS mailing list would help in that case also).
