I think that likely is what happened. My difficulty is that I'm simply not familiar with the Mac environment, and this is really a Mac environment issue. Linux distributions bundle Gutenprint, and handle the necessary dependencies (or users can install it themselves, and are responsible for the dependencies likewise, but people who do that are usually familiar with it). So that suggests that gutenprint52+usb has an unsatisfied runtime dependency on libusb (or in other cases it could be another library -- unfortunately, it looks like CUPS isn't capturing that -- but libusb seems lke the most likely culprit). I take it libusb isn't a standard component on OS X, so we need some way to ensure it gets installed (either by static linking if possible, in which case we'd have to distribute the source, as it's LGPL2.1+, by bundling, or by otherwise arranging for it to be installed on Gutenprint installation). -- Robert Krawitz <rl...@al...> *** MIT Engineers A Proud Tradition http://mitathletics.com *** Member of the League for Programming Freedom -- http://ProgFree.org Project lead for Gutenprint -- http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net "Linux doesn't dictate how I work, I dictate how Linux works." --Eric Crampton |

Pulling the issue from other threads so it is easier to find: Out of curiosity, I tried calling the gutenprint52+cups backend without argument. I am not sure this is valid reasoning or not. I tried installing 5.2.3, but during the installation I get an error message that the software failed to install because no software was found? Hi Neil, Good to hear about the Samsung. I guess that means we can add it as an alias for the Laserjet 4050 for now. As for the Canon G1500, you will certainly need the latest driver for that, and I look forward to your feedback on that, since it is experimental, with no-one having yet tested if it can work or not. Hi - I'm happy to report that the *Samsung ProXpress M3820ND *printer works perfectly with the Gutenprint v5.2.11 driver. I used the HP Laserjet 4050 for the make and model - I'm guessing that makes no practical difference to the driver! I had no need to set it up under a pseudodym - it was already working fine on my Debian 9.3 system with a Samsung driver - I just wanted to see if the Gutenprint driver would work. Anyway, I'm hoping for similar success with my new Canon Pixma G1500 colour inkjet printer which arrives tomorrow - hope I've not just jinxed myself in saying that! Thanks, Neil |

There may also be a problem with the 5.2.15-pre1 release. I hope you can help test to see if you find the same bug. You are definitely on the right track in installing thed 5.2.15-pre1 release. The printer needs to be set up a bit differently than you currently have it. Please Delete the current printer you have where all you saw was USB. Then you want to add the printer again. This time you should be able to add the printer with a connection of 'gutenprint52+usb'. Then select the software as Sony U-DR200 - CUPS+Gutenprintv5.2.15-pre1. Please post back to let us know if that works. If you still can't print, please go to the Console application: /Applications/Utilities/Console. There is a column on the left side of the window. Please use the disclosure triangles on the left to find /var/logs/cups. The click on the error_log option. Copy and paste anything that begins with a capital 'E' and post back. It may appear as: E [31/Mar/2019:12:03:31 -0500] [cups-deviced] PID 1340 (gutenprint52+usb) crashed on signal 6! If that is what you report, downgrading to Gutenprint 5.2.3 should work. In any event, please post back to let us know if you re-add your printer using gutenprint52+usb and get the message of an error ('E'). That would greatly help the maintainer of the dye sublimation code fix the problem. -- Matt wal...@ma... |

I am having issues trying to get a sony up-dr200 printer to work on a 2010 mac book 2.4ghz with 8gb ram runningHigh Sierra I have read the “hidden dyes printer” topic in the FAQ when I got to add the printer in mac OSX. under the 2nd column that says “kind” it says USB but the instructions say it should say “sony up-dr200 - cups+gutenprint v 5.2.14” at the bottom of the dialog it says use sony up-dr200 - cups+gutenprint v 5.2.14 so at least it is showing in one of the two areas. I also loaded u 5.2.15 pre release with same issue When I try to print the lcd on the front of the printer says transferring, but then it never finishes. it’s like the printer is not getting a stop command. My first post so please go easy on me. I searched the archive and did not see an obvious solution. [image: Screen Shot 2019-04-08 at 4.38.47 PM.png] |

I expect that this printer would work with the LaserJet 4250 driver in Gutenprint 5.2.14 or 5.2.15-pre1. The download link for 5.2.14 is https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.2/5.2.14/gutenprint-5.2.14.dmg/download If that does not install correctly, you'll want to use 5.2.15-pre1: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.2/5.2.15-pre1/gutenprint-5.2.15-pre1.dmg/download -- Robert Krawitz <rl...@al...> *** MIT Engineers A Proud Tradition http://mitathletics.com *** Member of the League for Programming Freedom -- http://ProgFree.org Project lead for Gutenprint -- http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net "Linux doesn't dictate how I work, I dictate how Linux works." --Eric Crampton |
