I found Gutenprint (Gimp-Print) because my MP450 printer driver is no longer compatible with OSX. On the face of it, it looks like Gutenprint would be a solution. However, perusing your user manual it quickly became clear that Gutenprint is designed for IT professionals, not an “educated layperson” such as myself, and requires a high level of computer programing competence just to get started. Do you have any plans to produce a version of Gutenprint that a moderately competent Mac or Windows user could install and configure and then use to print with? Ciao, Stephen J. Yesterday I got a report of a successful printing with a Sony UP-CR10L using the /snapshots/gutenprint-5.3.2-pre1.dmg image. In other news -- one of my clients wants me to do some OSX airprint-related debug and is sending me an older Mac Mini. My printer is technically not a supported printer so I need more folks to test that it is operating properly. In tech terms, my build is still a bit wonky.

I will confirm that I, too, was able to print with the gutenprint-5.3.2-pre1.dmg. I still want to look at a CUPS error log to see if there is any that stands out there.
I did find a fault with the installer. I will not update existing PPDs. The installer log says:

"5.3.2-pre1-2019-06-16T01-00-e55733ff"
After I added the new printer, I ran the cups-genppdupdate manually using `sudo`. It was able to update the new printer but still could not handle the old 5.2.14.x PPD
matt$ sudo /Library/Printers/Gutenprint.printerDriver/Contents/MacOS/cups-genppdupdate Password:Updated /private/etc/cups/ppd/WF1100_53_1.ppd using gutenprint.5.3://escp2-wf1100/expertSkipping /private/etc/cups/ppd/WorkForce_1100_GP.ppd: mismatched file versions (old 5.2, new 5.3); will not update without -x!Updated 1 PPD file, 11 skipped. Restart cupsd for the changes to take effect.

Dear Gutenprint-developers, first of all i want to thank you for your great work, which helps to decrease the number of thrown away printers, although they are actually still working fine ! I own a Lexmark X5490 driver, which is not supported anymore by Mac osx Mojave. Can you add a driver for this printer, too? As far as I know, there is no problem reported with this printer yet,
but there are many possibilities:
Which resolution mode are you using? And media is "plain"? Sorry I
don't know the French equivalent, but it means normal paper, not photo
paper or something like that.
The plain media modes are defined in canon-modes.h as follows, with

Can you try the two mono modes please, and if those work, the colour
modes from the bottom up in order. This testing will enable us to
check if it is a problem with one or mode resolution modes, or a
problem with the communication between printer and computer (a general
problem).
