[Gimp-print-devel] 5.3

[Robert K. <rl...@al...>]

Given that the test build for the Mac was done on an old package, I
discussed with Steve whether he could build a release from a newer
baseline.  He graciously agreed.  I'm going to jump the release to
5.3.3 for this.

I'm hoping to cut a tarball tomorrow.

I’ve read somewhere that  Canon G3010 was not tested. Well I did, it works.

Any suggestion about how to operate the scanner? I couldn’t really manage to do it.ç

thank you very much for all your work on the Linux Drivers!

I will do some major profiling the next days on 10 different papers for
my Epson SC-P800 (Profiling Value ca. 400EUR). Right now i am printing
with CUPS-Gutenprint 5.3.1.
Is there any major update planned this month?
In that case i would wait for the revision until i do all the profiling.

I have the gutenprint package in my ignore group for system updates
(Arch Linux 4.19.47-1-lts), so i don't suffer any color errors due to an
update, before i checked any new drivers.

How can i check what are the changes in a current update? Is there a
Revision Info somewhere? So, if there is no change to my printer, i do
not need to upgrade, if there is further no major change in the base
module, right?

I can't find specifications on the head configuration, but there's at
least a reasonable chance that it will.  If you test it, please let us
know whether it works.

More than a bit embarrassing.  I remember having some problems making sure all the `if...fi` sections were matched up.  Either I missed it or the final version didn't have the last fi removed.

At least for the escputil wrapper, many of the comments had to do with not being POSIX compliant.  I am self taught on shell scripting by following the scripts of developers that were doing wrapper scripts or scripts to automate a post install process.  I was also using the man pages in macos.  The web is also full of wonderful help turns out to be non POSIX compliant.  Hmmm.

I am sending Robert a revised wrapper for the escputil script that should parse better.

I've just been advised that the latest version is actually 5.2.15 (not
5.2.15pre-1), so you can get that, but you'll need to obtain it
directly from the file download folder here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.2/5.2.15/

Install the DMG file and then use your printing system's interface to
set up a print queue, selecting the gutenprint .5.2.15 driver for the
iP90

Can you print a test page from the front panel  The output should have
something that looks like grids of stairsteps, one per color.  You can
help by providing the following information:

1) How many rows of stairsteps in each color (should only need one
color; they should all be the same)?

2) How many steps per stairstep segment?

3) The total height of one of the grid boxes

4) Are the grids all in a row, or are they offset vertically from each
other.

I have a Canon IP90 and can’t download drivers as my IOS does not support the software. The IOS on my mac is Mojave and my husband’s  mac has Yosemite.

Is there a way you can assist as I had went to this link  http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.phpa    and don’t really understand how it all works.

BTW, I ran shellcheck on the escputil wrapper and the uninstaller;
there are quite a few messages (and the escputil wrapper doesn't
completely parse).  Got quite a few messages; they should be checked
