Since I'm the second person on the planet with Pickit3 + , I declare that it works super :) My computer work with Windows7. I have only tested PIC16F18855!
PICKit Plus comes in three variants - a Windows GUI application for the PICKIT2 programmer, another Windows GUI application for the PICKIT3 programmer and a command line utility for both the PICKIT2 and PICKIT3 programmers.
We have updated, revised and added new protocols to support the Microchip 8 bit parts released since Microchip dropped support, and, very importantly support for the newer range of Microchip parts (hence the new protocols). Updated the parts database, help etc. So, we tested and got folks to test even more - results were very good. We did not share too far as we had a 'Go To Market' plan.... see next.
Then, we started the 'Go To Market' plan. The plan was relatively simple. Option One was to ask Microchip to take the development under the banner of Microchip. This is the easier option for everyone. Microchip would get the credit for work, a commercial arrangement would cover the support costs, Microchip would 'certificate sign' the PICKit Plus applications (as this is not cheap) and then the software would be released to you all as freeware. As it was in the past.
Well after working with the Microchip 8-Bit Division Vice President...the response he got was a bit of a surprise from the Microchip Programmer Division.
They (Microchip Programmer Division) did not seem very excited… (do not think they would like to prolong the old PICKiT products at all…..
Yes, a brace was missing in the response. :-)
So, we have to go to the next step in the 'Go To Market' plan. Find the funding for the application packaging, sort out licensing, and release a new package in a more complex manner.
Summary.
We have a very good programming suite for the PICKIT2 and PICKIT3 programmers that will extend the life of your programmer/investment. No need to buy a new programmer just to program a part, and, all you old parts work with PICKIT Plus.
Will post more news about formal release and how you can obtain when I am over the shock.

The Project was on GitHUB
Microsoft have Bought GitHUB
The Licance is requierd to run it on Microsoft Windows.
So .................
Would Microsoft be Interested in Sponsering a Licance for a GitHUB Project?

Out of curiosity why Microchip would respond like that, I found that there is now a Pickit 4. Of course I don't want to go out and buy one of these just because its there, but like anything else, planned obsolescence is always in the mix. Have you seen or used one of these yet? I also have to agree with your hashtag...

Unfortunately, this is just a trick that in any industry, at least in the IT environment, all departments convert to profit centers. Even simple first level customer hotlines are mutating.
But crying doesn't help, I'm sure after a few painful years there's something new again.

No Use AVRDUDES and a PK2. Very
PICKit 3Plus Lives
I have just completed the first set of tests using a PK3. It works!
Works on a 16f18855 and this does represent the new class of microcontrollers.
Lots more to do to get the same level of functionality as the PICKit 2Plus but this means the solution approach works.
We now have.
PICKit 2Plus
PICKit 3Plus
PICKitPlusCMD
Good stuff!
An update
Some progress today.
PICKit 2Plus and PICKit3Plus working. Side by side.
Lots of testing, using IPE to validate, check the parts database but making progres.
You will from the image these are supporting newer chips like the 18f27k40 and the 16f18326 - lots more are supported, of course.

Wonderful news!!!
A beautiful sight to see!, great job.
Hugh tells me that both work under Windows XP!!!!!
Leaving the .net alone has paid back!
Now to sort PICKIT PLUSCMD. We are getting close with also
Since I'm the second person on the planet with Pickit3 + , I declare that it works super :) My computer work with Windows7. I have only tested PIC16F18855!
Mines dated (installer) 3rd march but only tested 18f25k22 which isn't a test.
Hi Annobium. I would like to have a crack at using the new pickit plus programmer if possible.
Thanks.
Marz.
@Mario. OK. Just need to understand what chips and your programmers to make sure we have not already tested your config.
Send me a personal information with this information.
:-)
Probably the older chips i would use are not the ones you need testing. Im happy to wait until you are ready to release it officially.
Marz
Probably a good idea to wait.

OFFER IS CLOSED NOW
We have a solutiion. We need to sort the signing cerificate and release formally.
It works!!
How are the trials going

Curve ball ider for you:
Or another company that makes programmers?
Na. None of this source is in GitHub. :-)

No you offered them a way back...
Customer suport is now a Profit Center.
The Income counts for more than Customer care and conveniance.

Unfortunately, this is just a trick that in any industry, at least in the IT environment, all departments convert to profit centers. Even simple first level customer hotlines are mutating.
But crying doesn't help, I'm sure after a few painful years there's something new again.
Whereas I paid £5 for pickit 2 & 3, cheapest pickit4 is £68...but then there's a pickit 3 for £66.
Any cheap clones yet?

Stan this is not about the hardware this is about the software. The programmers are not very effective without the software to make them work.
We are at a decision point - press on with PICKit PLUS or stop the development/give up.
Why are you concidering giving up? Is it technical?
Why?
Not technical. Movitation, cost recovery and supportability.
