EVEN BETTER!!! IT WORKS UNDER WINDOWS 10 - 64 BIT. I know the previous version has serious issues with Windows 10... like it did not work, or if it did it had USB errors and kept crashing.
What version of PICKit 2Plus please?
I will sort the 'unknown application' out when I have enough donations to get the Application Signing Certificate sorted. I will do this before I release the final version.
And, do grab the latest version. Same URL. A number of fixes for reported issues and one may impact Windows 10 - so, grab and retest.

I decide to throw a curveball and try a seldom used feature of the PICKit and Tested Reading and Writing a 24LC256 EEPROM.
It was a bit of a wiring challenge but once connected properly It worked.
PK2+ continues to impress.

Actually it's 5 tools as the logic tool has two distinct modes, as does the programmer and then there is the terminal.
Mode 1) Logic I/O - Used where you need input stimulus or level indication.
Mode 2) Logic Analyzer to see output waveforms such as PWM or UART Trafic.
Mode 3) is the UART Tool, which is a simple terminal, unfortunately it won't pass through to windows as a com port, but it is a useful debug disply.
Mode 4) it acts as an in circuit debugger but only in MPLAB and with Device Headers.
Mode 5) the good old Programmer that can program more than just Flash memory. It is equally good at placing Data, such as wavetables, into EEPROM both Internal and External, External Flash and dedicated Devices for Security as well as CAN Bus and LIN Bus profiles.
Something most people don't realise is that if you have multiple PICKit 2's and or PICKit 3's they can all be running at the same time acting as logic tools, UART Tools and Logic Analyzers.
So if you get a chance, buy more PICKit 2's, it was best value PIC tool ever, and the logic functions work just as well for debugging AVR devices too.

Some results of testing completed ealrier this week.
Using PICKit 2Plus v.4.61.0.14 and the latest part database.
Software tested and works on the following:
1. XP with the .NET patch provided with the installer - 32 bit
2. Windows 7 - 32 64 bit
3. Windows 8 - 32 bit
4. Windwows 8.1 - 64 bit
5. Windows 10 - 32 and 64 bit

These are excellent results for the PicKit2Plus. Can't wait to see whats in store for the PicKit3Plus! I wonder if you will be getting contacted by a head hunter for a position at Microchip now. Please don't leave us......

I am the wiz with Paint. I am away, again in AZ, so, it will be two weeks to a proper release if PICKIT 3Plus. If I get time I may be release something.
Question. I plan to install both pieces of software in the same folder. Anyone disagree? and, why?

Yes I disagree.
and, why?
Whilst you have brought both code bases into line, and they now presumably share a common .dat file, they do remain separate applications that support different hardware (PK2 vs PK3).
If there's enough commonality in the future that the two pieces of code become interchangeable then create a single Program called PICKit Plus, but as long as the code bases are divergent, and functionally different, they should be in separate folders.
Separating them will also allow one or the other to be updated with code or support files without having an impact on the other, thus continued parallel development is enabled.
As the average windows drive has several thousand folders, many containing a single zero byte file, a saving one folder offers no immediate benefit but it does open the door to unknown future problems.
Cheers
Chris

PICKit 2 Plus and GCBASIC are now the first to support Microchips newest line of Enhanced Midrange Devices, even though they are not yet in the hands of the developers.
The PIC16(L)F184xx 8-bit product family is entering production and Microchip has a promo offer on sample boards so, for an overview of the Devices supported along with a chance to get a free board, see here: http://www.microchip.com/promo/pic16f184xx-product-family
The boards are not yet ready but Microchip kindly supplied me with samples of the Devices, via the South African Agents, in DIP form factor so that we could produce and test GCBASIC and PICKIT2+ support prior to wide scale release.
Today, after a few false starts and some marathon intercontinental debugging, Evan and I were rewarded with Blinking Lights on the PIC16F18426 and the PIC16F18456 devices. Proving that we can support both the High and Low ends of the Product family and all variants in between.
Testing of existing peripheral libraries will start now to ensure full integration of the new devices by the time they ship.
As GCBASIC goes from Strength to Strength it is one of the most complete toolchains for PIC and AVR Microcontrollers, it is often ahead of its commercial counterparts in terms of devices supported and this new family is no exception.
Cheers

Thanks for the heads up Chris. I just submitted for one of the new boards from microchip.
Anobium, is there any update on the pickit3plus? I don't have any pickit 2s. GCB is really stepping up these days. I am really thankful for all the development that keeps going into this FREE product. Simply amazing!

Re PICKit 3Plus. I want to complete the testing of the PICKit 2Plus first, so, I do not have to keep going around in circles fixing both applications.
You will have to wait a week or so until the PICKit 2Plus is completed.
Another name for PicKit3plus, don't have a PicKit2. Let me know if there's anything specific you want me to test.
IPE has been fine for me, but having to download the whole MPLAB update just to update the definitions for IPE is not great.
Thank you Anobium! I will wait very much!
I have tested PK2Plus on 16F690 - 16F886 - 18F45K22.
Everything seems to work best. Great!
Great Which operating system?
Hi Anobium, I'm using Windows10 pro 64-bit + SynWrite V6.22.2290 + GCBasic v0.98.01
EVEN BETTER!!! IT WORKS UNDER WINDOWS 10 - 64 BIT. I know the previous version has serious issues with Windows 10... like it did not work, or if it did it had USB errors and kept crashing.

I downloaded the latest version and tested with PicKit2 on 16f886 everything OK!
Good. I changed the INI file location in the latest version following an issue reported with Windows 7.
I downloaded the latest version, and tested with PicKit2 on 16f886 and 18F45k22. All right!

Currently... trying to add.
Means, you have three tools for the price of one! You have this before but it was more button presses to get there.

Hi Anobium,
I've had success on my win10 system with the PK2+ software. Managed to program
12f675, 16f690 and 16f883.
Geoff
Excellent news. Personally, i could not get the original MicroChip Pickit2 software to work under Windows 10.
Please keep your version up to date during this development phase.``

I wasn't sent a pickit2plus link, just pickit3plus so can't test.
I just noticed the "Anobium/Microchip" logo in the screen shot. Very cool!
