Hi I am new to this list and i d like to congrats you all for your incredible work on the cube !!! I have been starting learning linux about a month a go, i always wanted to learn how it works , I ve made a linux on SD using supertux sources and GC-Linux wiki infos. I ve noticed that when installing binutils there is a bug ( or i do something wrong ) at make stage ... unfortunatly i don't have the hole outputs but it happens at opcodes : >make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/patx/build-binutils/opcodes/po' >make[2]: Entering directory `/home/patx/build-binutils/opcodes' >/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. >-I../../binutils/opcodes -I. -D_GNU_SOURCE -I. -I../../binutils/opcodes >-I../bfd -I../../binutils/opcodes/../include >-I../../binutils/opcodes/../bfd -I../../binutils/opcodes/../intl >-I../intl -W -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -g -O2 -c -o >ppc-opc.lo ../../binutils/opcodes/ppc-opc.c >gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../../binutils/opcodes -I. -D_GNU_SOURCE -I. >-I../../binutils/opcodes -I../bfd -I../../binutils/opcodes/../include >-I../../binutils/opcodes/../bfd -I../../binutils/opcodes/../intl -I../intl >-W -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -g -O2 -c >../../binutils/opcodes/ppc-opc.c -o ppc-opc.o >Connection to 192.168.0.47 closed by remote host. >Connection to 192.168.0.47 closed. > I ve also noticed that SDL 1.2.11 were supposed to be updated to the cvs but when i tried to install I had an error regarding the Version !! i picked SDL 1.2.8 instead and it went well so I guess CVS it is NOT updated... I ve also installed merlin's xserver and it works but more config needs to be done to make it the default X server in "xdm"... Merlin gave me a hand but i think i will need more help...remember i am new to linux... I like to learn but i hate to pass 3 days on a simple problem that could be fixed in 10 minutes with some help !!! Please contact me if you want to help, or want my SDlinux ... N.B. Saying that i am new to linux doesn't mean i am a complete noob... I ve been in electronics for a while and i ve made some devices already (the xbox8164adapter (original & talismoon version)) I was looking at the EXI and i was wondering if anyone is willing trying to make a USB port with a MAX3420e from mem. slot,,. I can do the HW part i ve got all needed even a LA... Hi, You can easily disassemble .DOLs by converting them first to ELF (google for doltool) and then using binutils' objdump with ppc support. Cheers, Albert |

[ Meant to send this from my personal account... :) ] Hi, I do multimedia hacking and I am interested in the multimedia formats packaged on GameCube titles. To that end, I have written a utility that mounts a GameCube disc image as part of the Linux filesystem: http://multimedia.cx/gcfuse/ related blog entries: http://multimedia.cx/eggs/gcfuse-exe/ http://multimedia.cx/eggs/gcfuse/ The GC-Linux project has done a great job of documenting some of the common multimedia formats like THP. It may take some binary reverse engineering to get at some others like H4M (unless someone has some intelligence not yet on the site?). So it becomes necessary to disassemble .DOL files. Are there already tools tailored for this specific task? (I did a little searching but didn't find much.) If not, I have been working on a custom DOL disassembler based on the "Simple PowerPC file and memory disassembler" by Frank Wille. The tool works pretty well now and I hope to spruce in up a bit and release it soon. Thanks... -- -Mike Melanson |

Hi, Since a few days I try to build my own gamecube kernel with uClib toolchain. And today I came up with a problem when I compiled the kernel 2.6.16.17 with gc patch applied. gcc 4.1.1 didn't like the multiple declaration of exi_bus_devices, exi_devices and exi_bus_type in exi_driver.c. So I had to apply the attached patch to make it compile. Unfortunately my brother still have my gamecube so I can't test if my kernel boot fine (to check if my fix is good). Maybe the problem is on my side as I'm new to uClib toolchain. Thanks for your amazing work on gc-linux. Sebastien |

i'm trying to compile dosbox 0.65 for the gamecube, and it runs out of memory when compiling on the cube, and just freezes if i enable nfs swap. i followed the instructions at http://voidpointer.org/gc-linux/cross_compiler.html to build a cross-compiler so i can compile it with my linux (x86) pc. it is the pc that is hosting my gamecube's filesystem and sharing it via nfs. the cross compiler appears to have built properly, i guess i just don't know how to use it. i pass the make command similar arguments as when i compiled my gclinux kernel, and nothing appears to work. it can't find the header files, and even if i copy files around to try to overcome that, it doesn't seem to be building ppc files. a simple step-by-step or a place to look for help would be appreciated! thanks |

As far as I am aware the only working X11 server for GameCube is the one I ported: http://www.gcdev.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3D1382 Although all X servers that target the framebuffer will run they will not display colours correctly (they assume an RGB framebuffer but the 'cube cannot support that). --=20 Daniel Thompson (Merlin) <da...@re...> signature.asc? http://www.redfelineninja.dsl.pipex.com/signature.html Did Sigmund's wife wear Freudian slips? |

Hi, I've managed to create a 2.6.15 kernel and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to make it boot via nbd. Another thing, why is it that when I use mplayer on gc-linux it doesn't show the output in fullscreen (black bar at bottom) but on the mfe 1.1 disc everything is fullscreen and the quality is excellent. Would it be hard to create an mfe disc that you could configure things like an ip for the gamecube and a share to mount via smb, that way you can browse straight to the files you want to play. Thanks |

Please stand by, volume of questions incoming: Hello, I'm new to this list, and this project. I have a little system I've been working on for a while. I wanted a "client" running on the television set, preferable running on a video game console. I saw the GC-Linux project, and thought... WOW. That's what I need. And I proceeded to read the entire wiki and a large volume of your mailing list. But I have quite a few questions, some of which I might have missed in the Wiki or the Mailing List. Also, I'm waiting for the last piece of my hardware to come in so I can tinker... until then I simply must question and think :D Here's the questions: * I've read two different answers about creating cubeboot-tools-0.2 bootdiscs. I've heard that booting from this type of disc requires a chipmod that causes the IPL to load the software from the disc. I've also heard that the regular Gamecube IPL can boot from a cubeboot disc without a patched IPL chipmod, but that the disc has to be organised in a special way. I'd prefer to NOT mod the development cube I have (It's my roommate's, and I'd lose a good friend if I made a mistake), so I'm currently going to use SDload. But I would like to be able to make bootdiscs, in the future, to have other friends "beta test" the software (without modding their cube), hence my question. * I've read that the ARAM can be used as Swap. Can the Linux-On-Gamecube play sound on the Gamecube? Can ARAM be split between swap and audio? * Is it possible to run Gamecube Linux without the overhead of having to have NFS partitions on a separate host? Is it possible to have all the information needed on the bootmedia? I am hoping to put togeather a minimalist "Linux Gamecube Runtime Environment" that has Kernel + Stackless Python + SDL (plus dependencies, etc) I would be making a Python package that would allow programs to access the gamecube hardware, so support would be needed for: Broadband + Memory Cards + Controllers + Sound + Graphics (Which I think I read are all supported by GC Linux) With the ultimate dream of having a basic system that would allow a homebrew developer to write programs using either C++ or Python on the Gamecube using standalone Gamecube hardware without requiring extra hardware (except for whatever would be needed to boot their software). I was thinking something along the lines of the "one floppy" linux distros. Something small with just the minimums required to get the cube to boot, then I could add as I required. Or perhaps that would be too much effort for not enough gain... Again, excited to find this project, and I hope to actually help out as I figure out what is going on!
