I have no USB stick and USB CD support which I would direly need for an urgent BIOS update! The required files as stated at http://www.freedos.org/technotes/newsitem/149.html have simply not been installed (dir /s) and thus can not be loaded. If I try to run C:\FDOS#\posinst.bat it just says something went very very wrong, oops! This even though I have selected all possible additional install options except net.
I think we can close this now, since FreeDOS 1.2 seems to cover what is asked (USB boot media?)
FreeDOS 1.2 provides for standard CDROM, legacy CDROM, floppy, and USB.
Closed.
