FreeDOS is a complete, free, DOS-compatible operating system that you can use to play classic DOS games, run legacy business software, or develop embedded systems. Any program that works on MS-DOS should also run on FreeDOS.

It doesn’t cost anything to download and use FreeDOS. You can also share FreeDOS for others to enjoy! And you can view and edit our source code, because all FreeDOS programs are distributed under the GNU General Public License or a similar open source software license.

  • It is great for old games!!!! I need help because I can not run my text602 software. It is czech text editor. It writes me an error. Also when I am installing programs with fdimples I must boot with hard drive then put cd in my cd ram and then run fdimples. It is Great.
  • forever like it !!!
  • I have kept FreeDOS on a partition for years. It is adequate to play most DOS games. I have numerous old tools that were written for DOS. It handles modern hardware much better than the original DOS. Have not been able to run any Win3.1 games on the shell. Needs information on what is working, and what is not, as I cannot tell if my problems are due to my setup, inexperience with it, or if the code is not completed. I need to compile something for DOS too, and have not figured that out.
  • I will try this project as soon as I can, thanks arsoftware25
