Not all blobs are the same :) I placed a poll about it on the website, and so far the 'ask user' option leads. I read that as users might be needing one setting for some blobs and other setting for other blobs (otherwise they would pick one of the settings in the poll - that they would set in preferences if it existed) I also voted for 'ask the user'. The reason is simple: I expect all my BLOBs to fit into 50kB and I set that as my preference. So when I 'Copy' and BLOB fits my 'usual BLOB' size I won't get any dialog and all works fine. If I meet some unexpected BLOB of 50+ kB I'd get a warning dialog asking me what to do - exactly what I need at that moment. We can even make such dialog call Blob::Info and read in the actual size, so user would get something like: This BLOB is 320kB which is more than your 50kB limit? What do you want to do? [Fetch 320kB and copy] [Just copy initial 50kB] [Cancel] Well, wording can be improved, but you get the idea. > And in context menu have both for some cases... > And maybe add option "Load and save to file" when user tries to copy > content (he can realize that there is a huge blob and he not wants to > try to chock up it into memory). I think that separate BlobDialog would be used for that, otherwise we're duplicating functionality. But maybe that is the right way to do it, I don't know. -- Milan Babuskov http://www.flamerobin.org |
