Hello Carlos. No. In MSSQL server there's an option of just appending binary content to the BLOB (Image) field without retrieving previous one first and doing the appending manyally. Something like this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpguide/html/cpconconservingresourceswhenwritingblobvaluestosqlserver.asp Regards, Alex. Parameterized queries work fine. Here is my code: public override void Load(FbCommand Cmd) { Cmd.Parameters.Clear(); StreamReader ValuesStream = new StreamReader(FileName); string ValueList = string.Empty; string ValueListParam = string.Empty; string Sep = string.Empty; int FieldIndex = 0; bool First = true; FbParameter CurParam; while (ValuesStream.Peek() >= 0) { ValueList = ValuesStream.ReadLine(); FieldIndex = 0; foreach(string Value in Regex.Split(ValueList, "','")) { if (First) { CurParam = new FbParameter("Field" + FieldIndex.ToString(), Value.Trim("'".ToCharArray())); Cmd.Parameters.Add(CurParam); ValueListParam += Sep + "?"; Sep = ","; } else { Cmd.Parameters[FieldIndex].Value = Value.Trim("'".ToCharArray()); } FieldIndex++; } First = false; Cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO " + TableReference + " " + ColumnList + " VALUES (" + ValueListParam + ");"; Cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } ValuesStream.Close(); Cmd.Parameters.Clear(); } Sam "Carlos Guzmán Álvarez" <car...@te...> wrote in message news:407...@te...... > Hello: > > > This is the insert code: > > > > StreamReader ValuesStream = new StreamReader(FileName); > > string ValueList = string.Empty; > > while (ValuesStream.Peek() >= 0) > > { > > ValueList = ValuesStream.ReadLine(); > > Cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO " + TableReference + " " + ColumnList + " > > VALUES (" + ValueList + ");"; > > Cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); > > } > > ValuesStream.Close(); > > Can you make a test using parameterized querys, please ?? > > > > > > -- > Best regards > > Carlos Guzmán álvarez > Vigo-Spain > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials > Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of > GenToo technologies. First, cudos to all the people involved in FB project. Doing the great job, hands down... I'm looking into FB as an alternative to MSSQL we are using at the moment. One important issue I'm wondering about is FB's capabilities of handling large binary data. Ok, I'm determined to put an effort and get first hand experience with FB and all it's features. One detail still remains a mistery, though. I need a possibility to append binary data to an existing BLOB field. Is this achievable using FB.NET provider? Regards, Alex. |

Sorry, I thought I posted this... This is the insert code: StreamReader ValuesStream = new StreamReader(FileName); string ValueList = string.Empty; while (ValuesStream.Peek() >= 0) { ValueList = ValuesStream.ReadLine(); Cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO " + TableReference + " " + ColumnList + " VALUES (" + ValueList + ");"; Cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } ValuesStream.Close(); And it generates this error: A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.Sockets.SocketException' occurred in system.dll Additional information: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host If I reduce the size of the data I am inserting into the XML filed then it works fine. Thanks! Is there an efficient way (i.e. quick) of inserting multiple rows at once? Under MicrosoftSQL I am using "BULK INSERT <TABLE> FROM <FileName>" but I can see no equivalent in FB. I can use a DataSet but this isn't this just doing a lot of single inserts underneath? (Using a transaction certainly speeds thinks up) Thanks! Sam |

I have a column defined as a BLOB SUB_TYPE TEXT When I do an INSERT with a length of 736,174 bytes then an error is raised the DB is created from: Hashtable dbCreateParams = new Hashtable(); dbCreateParams.Add("Database", DatabaseName); dbCreateParams.Add("User", UserName); dbCreateParams.Add("Password", Password); dbCreateParams.Add("Charset", "ASCII"); dbCreateParams.Add("Overwrite", "true"); dbCreateParams.Add("PageSize", "4096"); try { FbConnection.CreateDatabase(dbCreateParams); } catch (FbException e) { Parent.ReportError("Error creating FB database: " + e.Message); } but changing the PageSize seems to have no effect. the table is created from: cmd.CommandText = "create table Users (UserId bigint NOT NULL, XML blob sub_type text NOT NULL, "+TimeColumn+" timestamp NOT NULL);"; cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); // Create Index cmd.CommandText = "CREATE UNIQUE INDEX IX_Users ON Users(UserId);"; cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I was a bit confused by the documentation on CreateDatabase with regard to PageSize as it doesn't actually say what units it is in. I can quite believe I am doing something silly here. Any comments welcome Thanks! Sam |

Hello Carlos, I'm having some strange format problem while inserting date in a table thru Firebird .NET Provider RC8 (more specifically, assembly version 1.5.1458.19107) My machine is in a local settings of MM/dd/yyyy. When I try to insert date(or timestamp) in a table, it works fine. But when I change the local settings of the machine to dd/MM/yyyy, this insert fails. In fact the program hangs. I thought there can be some settings with any conf parameter of Firebird. But as confirmed by Helen Borrie, it is not. Later I also tried with Jaybird, and it is doin' fine in both the formats of date. I couldn't make out anything out of it. Can you give some idea about this? Carlos your example works for me too. The "Connection lifetime=15" is the cause. The Connection is destroyed and an Exception is raised because the Connection Object = null. For that if I ReOpen de Connection everything works fine. But in the 1.5.2 version the behavior was different. If i'm wrong let me know. Kind Regards Gianfranco "Carlos Guzmán Álvarez" <car...@te...> wrote in message news:406...@te...... > Hello: > > > The problem was that in the FbConnection object the Open method now it's > > required. > > Are you sure ?? this sample works for me: > > FbConnection connection = new FbConnection(connectionString); > > string sql = "SELECT * FROM PROJECTS"; > > FbDataAdapter adapter = new FbDataAdapter(sql, connection); > FbCommandBuilder builder = new FbCommandBuilder(adapter); > > FbCommand i = builder.GetInsertCommand(); > FbCommand d = builder.GetDeleteCommand(); > FbCommand u = builder.GetUpdateCommand(); > > > > > > > -- > Best regards > > Carlos Guzmán Álvarez > Vigo-Spain > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials > Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of > GenToo technologies. If you reuse an FbCommand for multiple commands where the first command is not transactioned and the second is then the second will do a commit because the implictTransaction flag is not being reset. e.g. FbCommand Cmd = new FbCommand("SELECT * FROM Table1;", Connection); Cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); Transaction = Connection.BeginTransaction(); Cmd.Transaction = Transaction; Cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO Table1 (Name) VALUES('Fred');"; Cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); Transaction.Commit; The Commit will fail because the second Execute does a commit. We have fixed this by modifying FbCommand.cs to reset the implicitTransaction flag ... internal void CommitImplicitTransaction() { if (this.implicitTransaction && this.transaction != null) { try { this.transaction.Commit(); } catch (Exception ex) { this.RollbackImplicitTransaction(); throw ex; } finally { this.transaction = null; if (this.statement != null) { this.statement.Transaction = null; } this.implicitTransaction = false; } } } Sam |

Hi I have just upgraded to the latest version of the 1.5 provider for .dot I have found that different versions take different connection string. two examples are below, note the server and datasource property have changed between the two. when did this change happen, and are we lightly to see any other changes in connection string. <add key="DbConnectionString" value="Database=E:\\TEST.FDB;User=SYSDB!;Password=masterkey;Dialect=3;Server =localhost;Pooling=false;DataSource=c3po"/> <!--This connection string does not work--> <add key="DbConnectionString" value="Database=E:\\TEST.FDB;User=SYSDB-;Password=masterkey;Dialect=3;Server =c3po;Pooling=false;"/> incidentally do I need to put the port number in, and is this always 3050, say I wanted to change the port, how exactly do I do it. cheers martin. |
