Huummm maybe i'm worng but i think that the 1.6 Alpha 1 for .NET 1.1. 
installer ships with the correct gacutil, you can review the KNOWN.txt 
file or build the sources ( you will need nant, nant.sourceforge.net )

something about the gacutil.exe and the MSVCR70.dll.  I think other persons in
this list has this problem.  So, I suppose that I will have to build the .Net
Provider from the sources myself, right?

1.5.X can't connect to the embedded server, you need to use 1.6 version

Read the help of FbConnection.ConnectionString property (in the API 
docs), you have the complete list of arguments allowed in the 
ConnectionString, including the ServerType one that allow you to connect 
to the embedded server ( using ServerType=1 ).

Hi,

I just come on this list, and I was searching the archives to see the answer to
my question.  I want to know if there is any user documentation and examples,
especially of how to use the embedded version of Firebird 1.5, because from
installing the docs and source of the Firsbird .NET provider 1.6 Alpha, I don't
see any, all I see is the API, which doesn't have examples of connecting the
embedded server.  Also, after downloading the .NET 1.5.2 Provider, I found two
sample files, but they don't show how to use the embedded server.

I had the search some other lists to find out that it was the 1.6 Alpha provider
that gave embedded support, but I would love to find examples of how to do this.
 From searching this list, I found out that you have to use ServerType=1 in the
connection string, but is this documented anywhere?  Are there any examples
anywhere on how to do this?  I would like to know what are the possible
arguments for the connection string, so that I can efficiently use this .Net
provider.  I am just looking for some help here, can anyone direct me to it?

[Firebird-net-provider] Developement status report

People that is using 1.6 sources from CVS will need to update their 
sources, i have committed today my latest CVS changes, their includes:

* Some fixes for the FbCommand and FbCommandBuilder classes.

* The implementation of ISerializable.GetObjectData in FbException class.

* The initial implementation (not in use yet) for allow auto-generation 
of parameter descriptors (without make calls to isc_dsql_describe_bind 
implementation method)

* Some other minor changes.


I will try to release the 1.6 Beta 1 in one or two days.

[Firebird-net-provider] Parameter handling

Hello:

I have some changes in my local tree, for start to make real use of 
parameter information ( FbParameter class ).

Until now on the command preparation the provider calls always the 
isc_dsql_describe_bind implementation method, to obtain parameter 
information, i have an initial implementation ( a little limited for now 
but enough for start testing ) for build the parameter information from 
FbParameter class, i think this can improve performance (not a great 
improve but a little at least).

It will do the call in any case if the parameter information cannot be 
correctly build ( for example if the length is 0 in char and varchar 
parameters ).

I will try to make some tests with the SqlParameter class for see in 
what situations it throws an exception ( i know there are some cases it 
do but not know the complete list :) ) for try to do the same in the 
FbParameter class

As this could break existing applications :P , i want to know opinions 
about this issue :)

Huummm GdsException has the Serializable attribute too, but it's=20
internal class, maybe i will need to change the way i'm throwing the=20
FbException ( that is using the GdsException as InnerException ) or=20
change this constructor:

because it can't find an appropriate constructor.  Has anyone else run into

Delphi 8 VCL Forms Apps, the best I can tell, can't use .NET components 
natively - one has to import them (so Delphi can create a wrapper) via the 
WinForm Control Import Wizard.  I've done this, and 3 of the 4 FB 1.5.2 
.NET Provider components (fbConnection, fbCommand, fbDataAdapter) appear in 
the Tool Palette - I don't know what happened to fbCommandBuilder.  Anyway, 
although the 3 components appear in the Tool Palette, I can't do anything 
with them - I can't interact with them (such as dragging them to my form's 
workspace) like I can if I'm creating a native .NET WinForms app, where 
they work perfectly.

No where that I can find in the Delphi docs does it state that the WinForm 
Control Import Wizard will import any and all .NET components, so perhaps 
this is a case where a failure can occur.  I'd just like to be able to talk 
to someone who has gone through this process already and can confirm that 
it can or cannot work.  We have a huge pre-Delphi 8 code base and we're not 
ready yet to do native Delphi 8 .NET WinForm apps, so it's imperative that 
we figure out how Delphi 8 VCL Forms App and Firebird 1.5 can work together.

Some time ago i was started a bugtracker as a sample app for the 
provider ( stopped now due to the work in the 1.6 sources ), i think 
this is much better sample :)

I need to do more tests, if anyone is interested on try it i will send 
him the Firebird SQL script and FirebirdDataAccessLayer.cs files (There 
a re another thing that needs to be canged but it's minor changes in one 
of the Bussiness layer class that is using SqlDbType enumeration :P).

I don't know what i'm going to do with the BugTracker sample existent in

     I'm using it's issue -- it's 1 row of source code, and if it's
     not supported ==> first way ==> 2 rows thru RefreshSchema what's
     is not good. and second way ==> manual dataadapter configure
     ~10-15 rows :) I think that is too good, and before this behaivour
     Firebird Data Provider support correctly.
     So these change absolutely correct.

[Firebird-net-provider] Transaction handle changes

I'm running some tests with SqlClient using MSDE i have found a 
difference between SqlClient and the Firebird provider on transaction 
handling.

Sample code:

SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
connection.Open();

SqlTransaction t = connection.BeginTransaction();

SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(sql, connection, t);
SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter(command);
SqlCommandBuilder builder = new SqlCommandBuilder(adapter);

SqlCommand c = new SqlCommand(sql, connection, t);

SqlCommand c1 = builder.GetInsertCommand();
SqlCommand c2 = builder.GetUpdateCommand();
SqlCommand c3 = builder.GetDeleteCommand();

t.Commit();

connection.Close();

When the transaction is committed ( or rollbacked ) the Transacion 
property of all the commands is being set to null, i have done some 
changes in my local tree for make this in the same way.

I will try to commit them this weekend.


Another thing i have noticed is that the SqlCommandBuilder doesn't 
generate commands with transactions when the Transaction property of the 
DataAdapter.SelectCommand is canged ( commitedrollbacked and started a 
new one ), in this case i will be updating the transaction property 
always ( if not the insert, delete, update will raise an exception 
because there are a transaction started and the command is being

We always use the default Username and Password to log onto our
databases, SYSDBA as the username and masterkey as the password. This is
what makes me really doubt that this is a login problem. The program has
been made so other users name and passwords can be used but we never do.

I use Visual Basic.NET Standard, FireBird 1.5, Firebird-Net-Provider 1.5.1.
STRANGE NOTE: Mentioned error I get only when running (lauching) my
application, NOT when debuging program 'step by step' ! realy strange fact
