OK So do have to do EVERYTHING by code or is there a way to use components like Delphi's TDataSet ? Where can I find a good tutorial for ADO.Net (or, even better, for Firebird with ADO.Net) ? I get the window that will create a connection. In the first tab (i guess in english the tab name shoulb de "Provider") there is a list of all possible connection type (Microsoft OleDB Simple Provider, Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider, ...) but Firebird doesn't appear in that list. I tried what is said in the article you recommened to me but it doesn't do anything better. Any idea ? Julien |

Hello: I have committed today some changes: * Added new Error codes (To resource file and IscCodes class) * Fixed most of the Globalization isssues reported by FxCop. * Simplified Numeric/Decimal handling. The Nunit test suite is running fine for me and i will try to make ore tests running the AS3AP benchmark and using the IssueTracker with the CVS version. I hope to release the 1.6 RC1 this weekend and more than probably the Alpha 1 of the Borland Data Provider. -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

The FbSecurity object (FbSecurity.cs) has a bug in the DisplayUser() function. The second last line of the function is: FbUserData userData = (FbUserData)info[0]; This throws and InvalidCastException because info[0] is an array of FbUserData objects, not an FbUserData object. Replacing the last two lines with: FbUserData[] users = (FbUserData[])info[0]; return users.Length > 0 ? (FbUserData)users[0] : null; Corrects the problem and also returns null if the user is not valid. Todd |

Hi, I cannot seem to use the NET provider to create and alter tables. Here is the code: string sqlstring = "create table testtable (testid int not null primary key)" FbTransaction txn = null; try { FbConnection conn = new FbConnection(connString); txn = conn.BeginTransaction(); cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = sqlstring; cmd.Transaction = txn; int records_affected = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); #if FB_DEBUG FbDbFactory.Log("Executing the following Query: "); FbDbFactory.Log(cmd.CommandText); #endif if(records_affected > 0) { txn.Commit(); } else { txn.Rollback(); } return records_affected; } catch (Exception e) { FbDbFactory.LogException(e); return -1; } finally { pconn.Available = true; CleanupResources(ref cmd, ref txn); } When I attempt to run the code through the debugger, ExecuteNonQuery always returns -1. In addition, I get the following error in the CommandPlan property of the FbCommand: CommandPlan <error: an exception of type: {System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException} occurred> This also occurs when trying to execute the following command on an existing table: "alter table testtable add temp_no varchar(50)". Note that both of these sql statements work through isql. Is creating/altering tables not currently supported in the .NET provider? -Tim __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Anyone succesfully using the .Net provider to do batch / DDL execution? I'd appreciate any tips / sample code. I tried the FbScript / FbBatchExecution route, which is workable after I fixed about 5 bugs in the parsing. I'd rather not have to parse the SQL client side (that's what the server does). I tried multiple SQL statements in a FbCommand using ExecuteReader() and reader.NextResult(), which fails for stored procedures and triggers with "Error 104 unexpected end of command" w/o using the SET TERM syntax and fails with "unknown token" using the SET TERM syntax. FbCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() works for a single stored proc or trigger, but not a script. Thoughts? Todd |

There is a bug in the parsing of connection strings in AttachementParams.parseConnectionString() ( AttachmentParams.cs ). The problem is if you don't specify a DataSource in your connection string, which according to the docs is valid and should default to "localhost". parseConnectionString() will call parseConnectionInfo() if the DataSource is not set, returning invalid properties for the database connection. Example: // Datasource should default to 'localhost' string cs = "Database=C:\test.fdb;Password=masterkey;User=SYSDBA"; FbConnection conn = new FbConnection(cs); conn.Open(); Results in: FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.FbException: Unable to complete network request to host "C". at FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.FbDbConnection.Connect() at FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.FbConnection.Open() One solution would be to set the DataSourceSet = true if the Database connection string parameter is set, since parseConnectionInfo() is searching for this parameter also and Database is the only other required connection string option besides user and passord.
