Hello: I'm starting to think on release the first Alpha of the Borland Data Provider, but just not sure about how i'm going to build the binaries ... huummm ... because seems that the BDP version included in Delphi .NET and C# builder differs ( if i'm not wrong, if i'm please let me know :) ), more than probably i will release binaries for the Delphi .NET version (i have the trial installed and it's what i'm using for doing basic tests) and people that is using C# builder (if there are) with a different BDP version will need to build it from the sources (not difficult at all). I will do the release probably next week (not decided yet depending on some things can be that i release it this week). The release will have a fixed version (1.0.0) because it's needed to configure it in the BDP configuration files (BdpDataSources.xml/BdpConnections.xml) and it can be used in connection strings as well and a change for each alpha/beta/rc can be a mess ;) It needs a lot of testing :) i haven't a NUnit test suite for it for now, i will try to modify the ADO .NET provider one for use with the BDP and test it. As always opinions and comments are welcome !! -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

Hello: Running FxCop over the provider assembly gives a good amount of issues related to Globalization issues (related to the usage of Cultures and Format providers for conversions), i 'm thinking on fix them, and probably create a new GlobalizationHelper class that will have the CultureAwareCompare method that now is in all collection classess (it will have other things as weel like a CurrentCulture and CurrentUICulture properties for simplify the fix of the issues reported by FxCop) FxCop gives too a good amoun of naming issues, for example to use FBxxx instead of Fbxxx, but that are not going to change ;) as seems that in the framework this is not standarized as well ( DBNull and DbType can be an example and maybe there are more :) ) As always opinions are welcome !! -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain |

In fact, UNICODE_FSS is more like CESU-8 and the the non-BMP characters will be represented as two "characters" (low and hi surrogate) each taking 3 bytes, for a total of 6 bytes. Hello: I have plans for release the Beta 3 today or tomorrow, after that my plans are to enter in release candidate stage and allow only bug fixes. The Borland Data Provider development will continue during the release candidate stage of the ADO.NET provider, as it's a separate, i think, there will be no great problems. I have committed into the CVS the changes for allow to set the character set of a FbParameter instance. There are too some changes on the input parameter descriptor generation, for try to make it more simple (the NUnit test suite runs fine for me with that changes). Abel Eduardo if you read this, please, send to me another email the latest one doesn't show a valid email for reply (at least in Mozilla and FireFox) ;) -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-Spain P.S.: I have an update version of the Firebird database script for the Microsoft IssueTracker starter kit, that will solve some little problems i have found while using it :), if anybody is interested on the new script please, let me know to my private email. |

Hello: Now the FbCommand class builds the input parameter descriptor without making a call to the server, in the case of char and varchar parameters the descriptor will have always the same charset as the specified in th connection string, i'm thinking on add a charset property to the FbParameter class for allow to set the parameter charset, probably a FbCharset enum will be needed as well, this will be useful only in the case of work with fields which charset is different than the database (connection string) one. Hello: >I have a CHAR(32) field in my database using UNICODE_FSS as charset >trying to insert a string of 32 chars using >INSERT MyTable (ColumnName) VALUES (?) >causes an exception in GdsInetWriter.WriteOpaque >in the line Write(fill, 0, len - buffer.Length); > Huumm can you send a test case ?? What version of the .NET provider are you using ?? What character set are you using in the connection string ?? And in the database ?? And in the Field ?? 8-) >the value of len is 32 (presumably the size of the CHAR(32) field) >buffer.Length is 96 (why it is not 64 I don't know... thought unicode >was 2 bytes per char) > It's 3 bytes per character. -- Best regards Carlos Guzmán Álvarez Vigo-spain |
