Since there is no FirebirdSQL for PocketPC I think that having the .net
provider for the CF is interesting but not very useful.
I would go with web services that helps mantaining an accurate design of a
distributed architecture.
The situation with SQL Server is different, because of the lite version that
runs on this platform.

Just my 2 cents.

I have some changes in my local tree:

1. StringCollection errors are fixed.

2. The design time support will be now included only if DESIGN_TIME is 
defined
at the build time (this will be nice for mono as well)

3. Connection pooling stuff will be enabled only if NETCF is not defined.

4. Serialization stuff will be included only if NETCF is not defined.

The remaining ones, from the list, are related to:
   
    DbDataAdapter
    DataTableMapping
    RowUpdatingEventArgs
    RowUpdatedEventArgs

But all these classes appears to be supported in the .NET Compact Framework
in the .NET 1.1. docs.

What references do you have in the VS 2003 prject ??

Is Firebird 1.5 SQL running on the Pocket PC platform?
or Is this for Pocket PC applications that are
connected to a network and can access a Firebird
Server?

As an FYI:
PocketVision a sample Microsoft application is using
web services to communicate with a SQL Server.

It also uses SQL Server locally to store some of the
data on the PocketPC.

But I don't think it uses the SQL drivers to access a
SQL Server on the network. I am not sure why they made
that design decision, maybe to reduce the amount of
communucation that needs to go on or better support
offline applications.

1.6 sources for make them to build in the .NET Compact Framework.

Zsombor Cserna is trying to build the 1.6 sources with VS 2003 
(he want to run the provider with it and as i don't have it,
i need help on this :) Thanks Zsombor)

He has commented to me (i have forwarded some of the messages to the 
list) some of the build problems, i think there will nothing really 
difficult to change for make the sources to build in .NET Compact 
Framework, i think that:

1. It should include only the C# GDS.

2. We will need to implement a StringCollection class 
(it's not supported in the .NET CF).

3. We should use a NETCF define for avoid the compilation
of some things:

	1. Connection Pooling (Somebody know if SqlClient 
	supports Connection Pooling in the .NET CF ??)

	2. Serializable attributes (Not supported in .NET CF)

There will be more things needed depending on the things that are
no supported in the .NET Compact Framework.

Opinions are welcome !!!!!!

Thanks for the changed files. This day we tried to rebuild the code, but it
was unsuccesfully. :-(

What we sent to you (FieldOffset) was the "top of the iceberg" - as we say
in hungarian :-) When we compiled, it developed many-many classes are
missing or changed. At the frist time, we tried to rewrite the code, where
it was needed, but now we have to take cognizance it is too big project
(code rewriting) to us at this time.

Here are some bigger example:
- Changed the System.Threading.Thread
- There is no overloaded method Convert.ToByte, Convert.ToDecimal,
StringBuilder.AppendFormat, System.Enum.GetValues
- The StringCollection class is missing
- The "MarshalAs" is missing
- Serialization is missing - of course
- System.Array.CreateInstance hasn't got the needed format
- BufferedStream class is missing
- etc.

More than probably Data Explorer works only with the Borland Data Provider.

The design time support in the provider is litmited to the FbConnetion,

don't see it in Data Explorer to simply drag a table on form.

I have now FbConnection1 connected, FbCommand1 with select query. I try

property to FbCommand1, but  get message "Object reference not set to an 
instance of an object".

What might me wrong?

Is there somewhere a step by step tutorial describing how to use 
Firebird .NET provider?

I think you will need to implement the IDisposable interface in that class
and do the FbCommand.Dispose call on it, if i'm not wrong (and if i
remember well, i was with the sample problem when implementing the
provider time ago), when the finalizer gets executed some objects are
collected yet by the GC.

You will need to use a DataSet, DataTable, ... i think Delphi should 
have samples
about that.

[Firebird-net-provider] Receive error when trying to dispose a fbcommand object.

I receive the following error when trying to dispose a fbcommand object.

Exception of type FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.Gds.GdsException was thrown.

Stack Trace:

at FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.Gds.GdsStatement.free(Int32 option)
at FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.Gds.GdsStatement.Drop()
at FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.FbCommand.Dispose(Boolean disposing)
at System.ComponentModel.Component.Dispose()
at IIS_CL.DB.DQE.CLS_SQL_EXEC.Finalize()

This get followed By:

An unhandled exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException' occurred in
firebirdsql.data.firebird.dll

Additional information: Stream does not support writing.


I am using Firebird .Net Provider Version 1.5.2


Here is an example of the code.
