Hi all. Somone a link about RSS2.0 (and maybe an example)? Somewhere i read that FeedReader is not compatible with RSS2.0, i want to look into this issue. Greetings, Karsten (khoffrath) |

Hi all. This is the last update for today: -ShowFeedHints defaults now to false. -FeedReader opens now popup windows in the default browser. -New option: Force new browser window. If enabled FeedReader opens a new browser window everytime one is needed. If disabled, browser windows that are inactive are reused. Time to turn the computer off :) More updates (hopefully) tomorrow. Greetings, Karsten (khoffrath) |

Hi Toomas. I downloaded the german translation file. Feedreader is now translated, but some words are missing (in the xml file). In cvs you'll find an updated german translation which holds all strings that are used in the current cvs version. Hi! There is one little problem with this useragent thing. I think it's better to use useragent "Feedreader" as default for updating feeds. That's because some servers count useragents and then give some usershare reports about RSS readers. What do you think? We have to push our product :) Greetings Toomas |

As I'm the author of this translation engine, I changed translation=20 downloading a little bit. Karsten, can you please test translation=20 downloading now and tell me is it ok now or not :) Also I must input new strings to translation engine. Yes, the characters in the file "translation.xml" have to be converted into something like é. After this Feedreader should start translated. Regards, Karsten (khoffrath) |

Hi List, some updates to FeedReader: 09.12.2003 khoffrath The XML files that hold the translations must not have characters like ä, ü, é, etc. If they do, reading the file will result in a TDomParser exception and FeedReader will not get translated. To overcome this issue the characters must be encoded in the translation file. At runtime this characters has to be reconverted before they are used in the program. The actual translation files that are online aren't converted so they will not work! All captions, texts, listitems, actions, etc. get translated now. New directory "Translations" created, which holds the actual translation files. There is a template file which holds all english strings that are used at this time. The german translation is ready and working. If new translations are created the files have to be converted with the programm "Encode2HTML.exe" which is in the new directory "Translationtools". We should consider to put the new translation template online so that the new translations are there when the next release is ready. I'll continue with the following issues: feedreader.com-Forum: opening popups in new browser window This goes first, but will result in a changed translation file, so wait until this is finished before putting the translation file online. 852578 memorize window size [ feedreader-Bugs-853907 ] Missing <title> breaks v2.5 b610 Regards, Karsten (khoffrath) |

Ah, i overlooked this setting. I will set the default to off. But this is a bug and i will fix it, too. Another possibility is to disable "Show feed-hints" in feedreader properties. At the moment, if user installs feedreader first time, Show feed-hints ise enabled. Isn't it better for them to be disabled by default? I do not use them myself (slow graphic adapter). Hi David. I also see this behaviour in some feeds i read. I attach a screenshot as an example. If you see the same problem, here is a workaround until it is fixed: It seems that this happens when you click on a feeditem in the treeview in the left and then move the mouse so that FeedReader shows the hint of another feed. If the hint appears before the content of the feed you clicked on appears in the right listbox, FeedReader will never show the feeditems and the hints will look like in the screenshot. Workaround: 1) Don't move the mouse over another feed until the feeditems are visible in the right listbox. 2) If you moved the mouse over another feed, click on another feed, wait until the items of this feed are visible and then click again on the feed you want to read. I discovered the steps to reprocuce this error this morning. The fix will be in the next release which will come soon. If you like, i will send you a new pre-release exe for testing. Hi all. Today i committed code which enables the user to choose if he wishes to change the user agent Feedreader uses when it gets feeds and shows them in the EmbeddedWB. This setting is stored in the inifile and restored when Feedreader starts. The default setting is that the user agent is not changed. In this case the default user agent for IE is read from the registry and used. Unfortunatly the option form has changed so that the translation files has to be updated. Greetings, Karsten |

Hi List. In the last few days i made some changes/bugfixes in the source: 26.11.2003 - Pressing 'z' will not enable aquariumview. 22.11.2003 -Properties are now saved in an ini file in the application data directory. This alllows you to use it on a pc on which you don't have enough rights to write to the registry. -Proxy passwords are now (encrypted) saved and restored. -Properties are saved everytime the option window is closed via the Ok-Button. -Method added to reduce the memory usage reported by NT-Taskmanager. -It's possible to configure Feedreader to store all files in the application directory. So you can install it to a zip disc, usb stick, etc. and run it from there without leaving files on the hd. See the FAQ about how to achieve this. Yesterday Toomas successfully builded a new version. I will test the new build the next days and fix bugs that arise. Since this is not an official release i won't enter bugs into the SF-Bugtracker but announce them on the list. So the question is: How will we progress? IMHO we should stabilize (featurefreeze) the actual cvs code, just fix bugs if they arise and then make a new release as quickly as possible. It's been a long time since a new version came out, it's time to bring a new version to the users. Greetings, Karsten |

Hello! I really cannot follow the dev list at the moment because of lack of time. But your help is really really welcomed. My development will continue in some months i guess. I think that at the moment we do not have any changes that are not in cvs. In last months i was only developer. So you are welcome to commit bug fixes. And of course you are welcome to share your potential development ideas with us. I will send you the XML parser source privatelly. Hello FeedReader-Developers, I read the announcment on the Feedreader-Homepage that there will be little to none development until January 2004. Since i am using FeedReader for several months now, i would like to provide some time to its development (mainly bugfixing). I've been working as an professional software developer for roughly six years. Main tools are Delphi (4-7), Kylix, SQL, XML, etc. I got the latest CVS-Version and managed to compile it with an old version of OpenXML (2.3.34) which i fortunatly got around from an old project. To get FormattedXML to compile with this version, i had to "backpatch" it. So my questions are: 1) Would someone be so nice and send me a zipfile containing the used OpenXML files (XDOM and the needed utilities) per private mail? 2) Should patches be send to this list? 3) Is the CVS-Version up-to-date or does someone have changes which are not commited into CVS? TIA, Karsten |

I have commited changes to CVS. No binary at the moment. There are some other bugs/feature requests that have to be dealed with. After this we will make little devrelease. Also I will start replying to emails what are received in this list. Greetings Toomas |

Hello! Ehh... Of course we need help :) At the moment there are two active developers but till yesterday there was three month gap beetween last development changes. And i guess that other developer from Germany is not working on it very actively at the moment. So all Your possible help is very nice. Of course I have a little roadmap in my head. Here it goes: First we need to fix some bugs. They are not big. At the moment there are 50 bugs listed in sourceforge. Then there is localization issues. We need normal interface to add and change localization files. At the moment I have php/http/mysql frontend for this but we should make it better so person can automatically create language file on server. If there are a lot of feeds and saved headlines, then saving and opening xml data files is quite slow. So maybe we should switch from xml data saving to some kind of binary format. Of course, it could be selectable, so some people could save in xml to. Another possibility is to implement opml import and export. The biggest thing I'd like to see in future is modulability (?) of Feedreader. I do not want to make Feedreader complex but instead like to add functionality to Feedreader by using modules. Some possible modules : pop3 mail checker, imap mail checker, news client, .... Point is that people could write those modules/plugins themselves. If you are interested in project, there is mailing list in sourceforge. You could subscribe yourself there and then we could continue outr discussion there so everybody can follow it. Also can you tell me about your delphi skills? :) Greetings Toomas Ratko Kovacina wrote: >Hi, > >The Feedreader is very good package, I have been using it for >some time and I like it very much. You can download my translation here: http://www.mycgiserver.com/~canopus961/FeedReader/translation.php Any changes are welcome. I think one Linux version would be great, but at first sight, perhaps the used components won't allow this. In any case, i could help too. P.D.: He procurado hacer una traducción lo mas neutral posible, pero si quieres cambiar algún termino o crear otra version "latinoamericana" como dices, por mi no hay problema.
